Shandong Teacher Jailed a Second Time for Her Faith in Falun Gong

Jan. 20, 2019 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Shandong Province, China

(Minghui.org) A Laixi City, Shandong Province, resident was sentenced to three years in prison and fined 5,000 yuan on December 24, 2018, for her faith in Falun Gong, a mind-body practice being persecuted by the Chinese communist regime.

Ms. Sun Yuzhen was arrested on July 1, 2017, after she gave a CD to Lin Haijun, chief of Binhe Police Station. The CD contained anti-firewall software designed to break through internet blockade. She encouraged Lin to use the software to access uncensored information about Falun Gong, but Lin phoned officers to take her to Laixi Detention Center. She was transferred to Pudong Detention Center 15 days later.

In early August 2017, the police submitted the case to Laixi Procuratorate, which later returned the case three times for insufficient evidence. The police, though, managed to have the case taken up by Laixi Court, which held a hearing on July 12, 2018, and convicted Ms. Sun five months later.

Ms. Sun's family has appealed the sentence.

Ms. Sun used to be a math teacher in Laixi Third Middle School. During her tenure, she received many awards for her outstanding performance at work. The teams she coached for middle school math competitions received good scores both within Shandong Province and nationwide. She was also a representative to the People's Congress in Laixi for 15 straight years since 1987.

Because of her belief, Ms. Sun has been arrested and detained numerous times. In March 2003, she was sent to a forced labor camp, where she was force fed and hung up.

She was arrested at the entrance to her school in July 2006 and later sentenced to four years in prison. While she was imprisoned, her employer fired her in 2008.
