Hebei Woman Imprisoned for Her Faith After Appeal Rejected

Nov. 15, 2019 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Hebei Province, China

(Minghui.org) A Chengde City, Hebei Province resident’s appeal against her four-year wrongful sentencing for her faith in Falun Gong was turned down by Chengde Intermediate Court. She has been sent to Shijiazhuang Women’s Prison on September 17, 2019.

Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

Ms. Zhao Shuqing was arrested on May 1, 2018 after being reported for talking to people about Falun Gong. She was found to have a tumor in her lungs and released two days later.

The police took Ms. Zhao back into custody in January 2019 and detained her at Chengde Detention Center. She held a hunger strike and was force fed. She demanded a physical examination, especially for her lungs, but her request was rejected.

Ms. Zhao appeared in Luanping Court on April 2, 2019 and was sentenced to four years.

She appealed the verdict. Many local Falun Gong practitioners mailed letters to the police and court officials and urged them to release Ms. Zhao.

The intermediate court upheld her sentence without holding a hearing and ordered the police to take her to the prison without informing her lawyer or family members.
