(Minghui.org) A Yingkou City, Liaoning Province resident was given 3.5 years in prison, shortly after she was arrested on August 1, 2019 for practicing Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

Ms. Guo Jinrong is being held at Yingkou City Detention Center. She has appealed her sentence.

Ms. Guo was prosecuted for distributing Falun Gong informational materials ten years ago.

On September 7, 2009, Ms. Guo, her daughter Ms. Liu Xin, and another Falun Gong practitioner in her 70s, drove to a village to distribute Falun Gong materials. After they were reported, the police closed the roads going in and out of the village in order to arrest them.

All three practitioners were later released on bail for medical reasons. The police extorted more than 100,000 yuan from them.

During Ms. Guo’s short detention, Yuan Jianhui, the head of the local police station, drove her car around. He extorted another 20,000 yuan from Ms. Guo before returning it. Ms. Gao discovered later that many red light tickets were issued to the car while it was in Yuan's possession.

The police continued to harass Ms. Guo and Ms. Liu, eventually forcing them to sell their house and move to another city.

When Ms. Liu recently went to the police station to inquire about a household registration issue, the police found her new home address and arrested her mother. Ms. Liu was spared from being arrested because of her pregnancy.
