(Minghui.org) Ms. Zhang Xuemei has been detained for seven months for her faith in Falun Gong. Her scheduled hearing in Yunhe District Court on October 22, 2019 was canceled 13 minutes before the start time. The presiding judge has yet to announce a new hearing date.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Zhang, nearly 50, was arrested on March 28, 2019 and has been held at Cangzhou City Detention Center since.
It has been reported that Ms. Zhang of Nanpi County, Hebei Province was targeted after being suspected of putting up posters with information about Falun Gong at a local residential area in Nanpi.
The Yunhe District Court informed Ms. Zhang's lawyer on October 18, 2019 that she was scheduled to appear in court four days later on October 22.
The court staff didn't inform Ms. Zhang of her own hearing until the morning of October 21, when the law stipulates that the court should inform the defendant at least three days before the hearing.
At 8:47 a.m. on October 22, the court informed Ms. Zhang's lawyer and her family that a member of the collegiate bench became sick and the hearing was canceled.
Ms. Zhang's arrest left her family, especially her daughter who was a senior in high school, in deep distress. Ms. Zhang's sister and brother-in-law are also under tremendous pressure while taking care of Ms. Zhang's daughter.
