(Minghui.org) A medical professional in Shanghai is facing trial for his faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Mr. Li Fujun, 54, was arrested on July 4, 2019 on the subway on his way to work. He was stopped by subway security for carrying a hotspot sending information about Falun Gong.
The police confiscated his computer, cellphone and Falun Gong books before sending him to Shanghai City No. 2 Detention Center later that day.
The Shanghai Railroad Transportation Procuratorate approved Mr. Li’s arrest on August 9. The prosecutor charged Mr. Li with “undermining law enforcement with a cult organization,” the standard pretext used to frame Falun Gong practitioners, and submitted his case to Shanghai Railroad Transportation Court in early October 2019.
Mr. Li was an associate professor at Xinxiang Medical University in Henan Province. He was fired by the school and sentenced to four years in prison when he went to Beijing to appeal for the right to practice Falun Gong in October 1999.
