84-Year-Old Mother Stands by Son Jailed Second Time for His Faith

June 4, 2019 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Liaoning Province, China

(Minghui.org) While an 84-year-old mother struggles to take care of herself after her only son was given five years for his faith in Falun Gong, she has never complained about him and says, “He did nothing wrong!”

Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a mind-body practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

Mr. Jin Fuzhang, 41, was first sentenced to three years in prison for refusing to renounce Falun Gong shortly after the persecution began. The Yingkou City, Liaoning Province, resident was arrested again on June 28, 2016. He appeared in the Xishi District Court on April 28, 2017, and was sentenced to five years in prison three months later.

While Mr. Jin is serving time, his wife struggles to make ends meet and support their young son by doing odd jobs. His mother, who lives alone and used to rely on him to fix things at home, has trouble finding help with home repairs.

A water pipe burst in his mother's home not long ago. The plumber didn't do a good job and the pipe broke again a week later. He returned a second time but didn't know how to fix it. She then realized he wasn't a qualified plumber, but he still charged her 20 yuan. She bought a new pipe herself and found someone else to help install it.

Another time, the glass on a kitchen cabinet broke. She went to several stores, but couldn't find the matching glass. She went to a glass factory and they gave her a piece of glass for free. She had a hard time installing it herself.

When her water heater broke, the public bathhouse didn't let her take a shower by herself given her age. Luckily, a friend helped her purchase a new water heater and have it installed.

At the grocery store, she lost 800 yuan, her ID, and her salary card. When she went to the local police station to apply for a new ID card, she didn't have enough with her to pay for the processing fee, so her application wasn't accepted. On her way home, she ran into an old friend, who gave her 200 yuan. She returned to the police station and turned in her ID application.

While life is not easy without her son around to help her, Mr. Jin's mother has never blamed him for holding firm to his faith. “He did nothing wrong,” she says.
