(Minghui.org) Ms. Ding Hongjuan has been taken to Harbin Women's Prison after her appeal was rejected by Daqing City Intermediate Court in May 2019.
The 51-year-old woman from Daqing City, Heilongjiang Province was sentenced to two years by Sartu District Development Zone Court on December 27, 2018 for not renouncing her faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Because of exposing the persecution and appealing for Falun Gong in Beijing, Ms. Ding has been repeatedly arrested and given two forced labor camp terms for a total of 4.5 years in the past two decades.
After one arrest in 2001, Ms. Ding held a hunger strike to protest the arbitrary detention at Daqing City Detention Center. The guards ordered the inmates to force feed her.
Two inmates watched her around the clock. If she did the Falun Gong meditation, they beat her and pulled her hair. One inmate hit her with slippers, and as a result, her hands were severely swollen and her fingernail fell off.
The guards also pulled one of her hands across from her shoulder, and cuffed it to her other hand pulled up from her back. Then they locked her in a chair and left her in this excruciating position for three days. Her feet swelled up so badly that she was unable to walk when the guards released her from the chair.
She was released on the verge of death after 53 days of torture.
While Ms. Ding was serving a three-year term at Harbin Women's Forced Labor Camp between 2002 and 2005, she was monitored by inmates around the clock, whether she was eating, sleeping or using the restroom.
The guards once forced her to squat for a month without sleep. They placed a little stool on her head and if the stool fell because she moved, they beat her with a broom stick. Without being allowed to take a shower, her body smelled terribly. Sometimes she would just collapse to the ground and fall asleep. Then the inmates would pour cold water on her, shock her with electric batons, or take off her clothes and open the window to freeze her to keep her awake.
At another time, the guards cut her hair very messily to humiliate her. Then they dragged her into solitary confinement and locked her in a chair. The inmates beat her with a hard board and pinched her thighs, armpits and breasts. They also sprinkled salt into her wounds to further intensify her suffering.
In addition to the torture, Ms. Ding was also forced to do manual labor without pay, including trimming fabric and packaging toothpicks, chopsticks and napkins.
