Republican National Committee Passes Resolution Against Forced Organ Harvesting in China

Aug. 15, 2019

(Minghui.org) The Republican National Committee (RNC) of the U.S. unanimously passed a resolution on August 2, 2019 to denounce forced organ harvesting in China. The RNC “strongly condemns the practice of China’s involuntary organ harvesting.” The full text of the resolution can be found at the end of this article.

Shawn Steel, former chair of the Republican Party of California, is a current RNC Committeeman for California. He introduced the resolution after hearing about an independent people's tribunal in London concluded on June 17, 2019, stating that the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) had been harvesting organs from living Falun Gong practitioners for many years, and the tragedy still continues.

Referring to the organ harvesting issue, the tribunal was most likely “the most important fact-finding group” that has “gotten to the heart of the matter” on the issue. Steel called the medical examinations inside Chinese prisons for organ donation matches “unbelievably cruel.” He considers the practice similar to Nazi doctors conducting medical experiments on Jewish prisoners, such as the infamous Dr. Josef Mengele, who selected, and then conducted medical experiments on Jewish prisoners at German concentration camps.

When Steel first heard about this issue during a trip to Helsinki, Finland, where Falun Gong practitioners were raising awareness of it in a street exhibition. He could hardly believe it. “What kind of society would allow that to happen?” he asked. But more and more reports from independent organizations confirmed the existence and scale of these atrocities.

“You don’t get a vital human organ in two weeks in America. It takes a year, it takes a long time. People die every day waiting for a volunteer donor,” Steel remarked, adding that the brutality would bring more attention in the international society, “It can’t go away because thousands of victims are being involved every year in China, that’s too big of a number to hide,” Steel said.

Resolution Provided by the Counsel’s Office of the RNC:

RESOLUTION REGARDING CHINA’S ORGAN HARVESTING

WHEREAS, For the better part of two decades, China’s communist regime has been engaged in the vile practice of forced organ removal for transplant from incarcerated prisoners and it is believed these people are “prisoners of conscience,” Muslims, Tibetan Buddhists, Christians, and Falun Gong practitioners;

WHEREAS, China is experiencing an influx in “transplant tourism” wherein individuals critically in need of transplants are traveling to China to pay thousands of dollars for one of China’s 60,000 to 90,000 transplant surgeries each year—far in excess of the number of their voluntary organ donations;

WHEREAS, Chinese hospitals are able to schedule transplants of major organs within two weeks, suggesting a nefarious intuition regarding the “donation” of these organs;

WHEREAS, By contrast, America’s highly-developed organ donation scheme requires recipients be placed on a carefully curated list requiring many candidates to wait hundreds of days for a transplant the exact date of which cannot be predicted and often does not come in time;

WHEREAS, It is believed that since 2000, hundreds of thousands of people have been murdered and had their organs involuntarily harvested;

WHEREAS, In June 2019, the independent China Tribunal announced its finding that China’s regime has for decades practiced systematic forced organ removal from prisoners of conscience;

WHEREAS, The parliaments of Canada and the European Union, as well as the Foreign Affairs Committee of the United States House of Representatives, have adopted resolutions condemning organ harvesting from prisoners of conscience; and

WHEREAS, United Nations Special Rapporteurs have called on the Chinese government to account for the sources of organs used in transplant practices, and the World Medical Association, the American Society of Transplantation, and the Transplantation Society have called for sanctions on Chinese medical authorities; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Republican National Committee (RNC) strongly condemns the practice of China’s involuntary organ harvesting; and

RESOLVED, That the RNC considers China’s involuntary organ harvesting as a major human rights violation.
