(Minghui.org) A woman in Lingyuan City, Liaoning Province was paralyzed after being tortured for her faith in Falun Gong ten years ago. She was arrested again in July 2019 and mistreated while in police custody.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual and meditation discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Seven officers from Lingyuan City Police Department broke into Ms. Li Yajun’s third-floor apartment on the morning of July 5, 2019. As Ms. Li was unable to walk because of her paralysis, the officers dragged her downstairs and all the way to a vehicle parked far away. Some officers stayed to ransack her home. Her Falun Gong books and related materials were confiscated.
The police interrogated her at the police department, but Ms. Li refused to cooperate and urged them not to participate in the persecution.
The police drove Ms. Li to Chaoyang City Detention Center in the afternoon, which was approximately 60 miles away. She was given a physical examination at a hospital prior to their arrival at the detention center. A doctor at the detention center refused to take Ms. Li as soon as he saw Ms. Li’s physical condition.
The police drove her back and released her in the evening. The hassles and long drive were very hard on Ms. Li physically.
During the past 20 years of the persecution of Falun Gong, Ms. Li has been arrested several times for refusing to renounce her faith. She had to live away from home for four years to avoid further persecution.
When she was arrested again, she was given one year of forced labor, but was soon released because the local labor camp refused to take her due to her poor health.
Ms. Li was tortured every time she was detained. Following one arrest in 2009, she was beaten by a group of guards and other detainees. As a result she sustained physical trauma to the neck, which subsequently led to spinal nerve damage and permanent paralysis. Not being able to care for herself put a tremendous pressure on her family, both financially and mentally.
