(Minghui.org) A Xinbin County, Liaoning Province resident has been sent to Jilin Province Women’s Prison after she was secretly sentenced to four years for practicing Falun Gong, an ancient spiritual and meditation discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Qu Guiying, in her 60s, was reported on April 3, 2019, for going to the neighboring Jilin Province to talk to people about Falun Gong. Police officers from Fujiang Police Station in Tonghua County, Jilin Province arrested her. She was detained at Changliu Detention Center in Tonghua.
Ms. Qu’s lawyer went to the Liuhe County Court in Jilin Province five times to review her case documents, but was rejected each time. The judge later told the lawyer that Ms. Qu had decided to dismiss him.
When the guards finally allowed the lawyer to meet with Ms. Qu on November 23, she told him that the court just held a secret hearing of her a week earlier. She also said that she had never dismissed him, and the judge was lying.
The judge later secretly announced the verdict against Ms. Qu without informing the lawyer.
Ms. Qu used to work at the Xinbin pharmaceutical company. She took up Falun Gong in 1994 and credits the practice for curing her kidney condition and whole-body edema.
Ms. Qu was arrested in October 1999 on her way to Beijing to appeal for the right to practice Falun Gong. She was detained briefly at Xinbin County Detention Center and fined 5,000 yuan.
Ms. Qu was arrested one more time while displaying a Falun Gong banner at Tiananmen Square on December 23, 2000. She was detained for seven days and then given three years at Wujiabaozi Forced Labor Camp. The guards deprived her of sleep and forced her to squat or stand for long hours, because of her refusing to renounce Falun Gong. She was released on medical parole four months later after developing whole-body edema.
Ms. Qu was arrested for the third time on September 6, 2006, for talking to people on a bus about Falun Gong. She was detained at Xinbin County Detention Center for ten days and then given two years at Masanjia Forced Labor Camp. She was released in June 2008.
A year later, Ms. Qu was reported for distributing Falun Gong materials and arrested on May 26, 2009. The police extorted 2,000 yuan from her before releasing her.
The police went to her home on May 31, 2010, in attempts to harass her. She wasn’t home when they came.
Ms. Qu was arrested again on March 9, 2011, after being reported for talking to people about Falun Gong. She was sentenced to four years to Liaoning Province Women’s Prison by Xinbin County Court.
