(Minghui.org) Two Harbin City, Heilongjiang Province residents were sentenced to prison for practicing Falun Gong on September 17, 2020.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is an ancient spiritual and meditation discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Dong Wenxiu, 59, and Ms. Wang Yurong, 62, were targeted in a group arrest on September 11, 2019. It was reported that the police monitored the practitioners' daily lives for months before executing the arrests. The police ransacked most practitioners' homes and confiscated their Falun Gong books, computers, cellphones and other personal belongings.
The police’ raid of Ms. Dong’s residence terrified her 90-year-old mother who lived with her. One female officer also threatened to arrest Ms. Dong’s mother during the raid.
Ms. Dong and Ms. Wang were detained at Harbin City No. 2 Detention Center after their arrests. Ms. Dong was sentenced to two years, and Ms. Wang three years, by the Railroad Transportation Court. Ms. Dong has appealed her verdict.
Another two practitioners who were arrested in the police sweep, Ms. Wang Shulan and Ms. Wan Fang, are awaiting verdicts after having their cases heard by the same court.
Ms. Wang Yurong is a retired employee of Harbin Bearing Factory. She used to suffer many ailments from head to toe, including stomach and heart condition, high blood pressure, and rheumatoid arthritis, all of which disappeared after she took up Falun Gong.
Because of upholding her faith in the persecution, she was given one forced labor camp term, twice sent to brainwashing centers, and thrice to detention centers. One of her family members said, “The police left those murderers and arsonists alone, but specifically target the good people who practice Falun Gong. What kind of society is this!”
