(Minghui.org) Mr. Wei Guoshen, a 66-year-old resident of Tangshan City, Hebei Province, was recently sentenced to prison for practicing Falun Gong, a spiritual practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Mr. Wei was arrested in a police sweep on June 18, 2020, when over 30 Falun Gong practitioners from Fengrun District were taken into police custody in one day. He was taken to Liushahe Police Station where he was interrogated and tortured.
Police handcuffed Mr. Wei’s hands behind his back. They sprayed an unknown drug into a plastic bag and placed the bag over his head. Mr. Wei was forced to breathe in the corrosive drug fumes, suffocating him. Police director Li Jijun pushed the drug liquid accumulated at the bottom of the bag to Mr. Wei’s chin. Another officer sprayed the drug directly into his eyes which made Mr. Wei’s eyes tear up.
Torture Demonstration: suffocation
Police placed the bag over Mr. Wei’s head three times within a few hours. By the time he was interrogated by Deputy Director Wang Liguo, Mr. Wei was foggy-headed and under the influence of the drug. He repeated whatever the police told him to say. Later when he was released on bail, his family saw his face was all dark. The corners of his eyes were swollen and there were signs of corrosion and burns on his chin and other parts of his face.
Police also confiscated 8,400 yuan from Mr. Wei’s home when they arrested him. His family paid another 10,000 yuan for his “bail”. On August 17, 2021, Mr. Wei was summoned to Liushahe Police Station and was told that the 8,400 yuan would not be returned to him. Deputy Director Wang Liguo forced Mr. Wei to put his name and fingerprint on a receipt of 8,400 yuan before he was let go. During his trial on September 15, 2021, the prosecutor stated that Mr. Wei had received the 8,400 yuan back when in fact all Mr. Wei got was a receipt.
The Cunhua District Court of Tangshan City sentenced Mr. Wei to three years and eight months to prison and a fine of 5,000 yuan on October 15. Mr. Wei is appealing his sentence.
