(Minghui.org) The authorities in Shanghai have been constantly harassing Ms. Wang Yaping after she finished serving a 1.5-year term for her faith in Falun Gong.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Wang, a former chemistry teacher at Lianchuan Middle School in Shanghai, was arrested on August 13, 2019 and held at the Jiading Detention Center. She was sentenced to 1.5 years and fined 5,000 yuan on June 10, 2020.
When she was released on February 12, 2021, a staff member of her residential committee told her that they had a five-year “education” plan for her, as she hadn’t renounced Falun Gong.
When police officer Chen Yongliang and a community worker harassed Ms. Wang on March 23, she asked them to show their IDs and wanted to know the legal basis for their harassing her.
Chen said, “We are here to help you. Why not make friends with us?”
Ms. Wang responded, “I don’t need your help. You are helping me if you don’t come back to harass me.” They didn’t say a word and left.
Ms. Wang’s husband received a call on April 8 and was ordered to report to the Jiading District Residential Committee the next day. He went there, and was told by a group of unidentified officials to persuade Ms. Wang to cooperate with them.
At the same time, the Jiading District Education Bureau fired Ms. Wang and ordered a colleague to persuade her to renounce Falun Gong. That colleague refused to do so.
Ms. Wang was taken to the Jiacheng Police Station on May 17 and held for 19 hours. The police ordered her to sign a statement, promising to “follow the law.” She refused to sign. Her husband, on the other hand, was forced to turn in their computer and printer, as well as sign a guarantee statement to monitor Ms. Wang’s daily activities.
The authorities have closely monitored Ms. Wang between May 17 and June 14, in early July (the communist regime’s centennial anniversary of its founding), the first week of October (the anniversary of the regime’s officially taking power in China), and between November 4 and 11 during the China International Import Expo in Shanghai.
