(Minghui.org) On July 20, 1999, Jiang Zemin, former leader of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), launched the persecution of Falun Gong, a mind-body practice also known as Falun Dafa that is based on the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. Since then, numerous Falun Gong practitioners have been arrested, sentenced, and tortured for their faith. One of the most notorious prisons for abusing Falun Gong practitioners is Jilin Province Women’s Prison.
According to available statistics from the Minghui website, at least 29 practitioners had died as a result of the brutal torture they suffered at Jilin Province Women’s Prison. As recently as July 2021, Ms. Fu Guihua, a Changchun City, Jilin Province resident, died only two months after she was taken to the prison, while her daughter, Ms. Yu Jianli, is still being abused in the same prison for her shared faith in Falun Gong.
While many persecution cases have been reported, many more cases likely remain unreported, due to strict information censorship in China and the fact that some practitioners or their families chose to stay silent for fear of retaliation from the authorities.
Officials at Jilin Province Women’s Prison have developed a transforming process aimed to force Falun Gong practitioners to renounce their faith. All newly admitted practitioners are each assigned 1-2 criminal inmates and 1-2 collaborators (former practitioners who have renounced their faith), who monitor them around the clock. The inmates are given term reductions as incentives.
Some of the collaborators gave up their belief in Falun Gong because of the tortures they suffered, while others were coerced by prison guards to renounce their faith. Because they once practiced Falun Gong themselves, it was easier for them to deceive the practitioners. Living in the same cells as the newly admitted practitioners, the collaborators observe the practitioners closely and try to identify their personalities and weaknesses that could be used to weaken their willpower and shake their faith in Falun Gong.
Practitioners are subjected to strict monitoring, solitary confinement, and tortures. They are forced to watch videos that defame Falun Gong and are required to write frequent “thought reports.” Even entertainment performances are turned into brainwashing programs to slander Falun Gong.
Those practitioners who refuse to renounce Falun Gong are placed under strict monitoring by several criminal inmates (often murderers or drug dealers). They are crude and sometimes perverted. They would use all possible methods to torture the practitioner under their watch, such as not allowing her to sleep, eat, drink, or wash. The practitioner is forced to sit on a small stool for an extended period of time. She may not be allowed to use the toilet or use sanitary napkins when menstruating. The practitioner is being watched at all times and could be verbally abused or beaten by these criminal inmates at will.
The prison guards turn a blind eye to these criminals. If a practitioner reports the mistreatment to prison guards, she is often ignored and retaliated against. Some practitioners have been crippled permanently, some were driven insane, and some died from the torture.
When a practitioner is forced to renounce Falun Gong under pressure, she is still under close monitoring by the assigned inmates and collaborators. If her behavior does not meet the requirements of being truly transformed, she may be put under strict monitoring again for the so-called in-depth transformation. To be considered truly transformed, one must openly acknowledge and agree with the CCP-manufactured lies against Falun Gong.
