(Minghui.org) Today's news from China includes incidents of persecution that took place in 18 cities or counties in 8 provinces, where at least 51 practitioners were recently persecuted for their belief.
Ms. Shi Mengqiao was arrested on February 12, 2020, and later sentenced to a one-year-and-six-month prison term and fined 20,000 yuan. Ms. Shi was held in the Yongkang City Detention Center.
Ms. Shi suffered brain injuries resulting from abuse in the detention center. The detention center covered up their crimes, saying that she had a cerebral infarction and a brain tumor. They decided to have her undergo brain surgery without her family’s consent or signature. Ms. Shi is now in a coma and was transferred to the intensive care unit.
Latest update: Ms. Shi has been staying in the ICU. Her family members recently learned that her pupils are dilated.
Mr. Fu Chensheng, 69, from Wenquan Town, Haidian District, was arrested for talking to people about Falun Gong. He was sentenced to three years and three months in prison by the Haidian District Court. He was taken to a prison, which refused to accept him because of his age. He was returned to the Haidian District Detention Center, where he has been held for over a year. People just learned about his situation, and efforts have not yet been initiated to obtain his release.
It was reported today that the Shapotou District Procuratorate brought charges against Mr. Zheng Yongxin and eight other practitioners at the Shapotou District Court on April 30, 2021. The case was filed as the Wei Sha Procuratorate Department 1 Criminal Prosecution (2021) No. 125 Indictment.
On May 25, 2021, the Shapotou Court issued a ruling: “During the trial process, due to extenuating circumstances, the case could not be processed for an extended period of time. In accordance with the provisions of Section 1 (Paragraph 4) of Article 206 of the Criminal Procedure Law of the People's Republic of China, the judgment is as follows: The trial of this case has been terminated.”
Mr. Zheng Yongxin, Ms. Yang Jie, Ms. Huang Yuxia, Ms. Chang Xiu’e, and Ms. Wen Jing are still being held in the Zhongwei City Detention Center. Ms. Jing Yuling is still being held in the Yinchuan Detention Center. Ms. Wang Shunqin is still being held in the Shizuishan City Detention Center. Ms. Wen Yuxiu and Ms. Zhang Yulian are still under residential surveillance.
Eleven people, including Yuan Guopeng, Zhang Haifeng, deputy directors of the Anshu Town Police Station, women’s director Ma Hongmei in the village, and staff members of the Dongliao County Political and Legal Affairs Committee, went to the homes of Mr. Li Dechun and Ms. Yu Dianfan to harass them on May 17, 2021.
Prior to that, these people made two harassing calls, asking if Mr. Li still practiced Falun Gong, and pressured him to sign transformation statements, which Mr. Li refused.
These people threatened that if the practitioners did not sign paperwork that day, they would be taken to the brainwashing center. This is part of the “zero-out” campaign launched across the province.
Ms. Shao Lian, 78, from Shashi District, was arrested again on April 29, 2021. She is being held in the Ximen Detention Center in Jingzhou District. Prior to that, she was placed under residential surveillance.
Ms. Deng Tianyu was sentenced to five years in prison, and was temporarily held in the Ximen Detention Center.
A group of people from the Baigutun Township Government and the Baigutun Police Station, led by security director Sun Fuhong of Baigutun Village and residential officers, broke into Ms. Ren Xiaolan’s home and arrested her on May 24, 2021, without showing any identification.
They tore down the “Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance” calligraphy and paintings from the wall, and confiscated photos of the founder of Falun Gong and an incense burner. Ms. Ren’s current whereabouts are unknown.
Ms. Tan Ling, 47, was arrested on May 21, 2021 by five plainclothes officers led by Zhang Xinliang, head of the Criminal Investigation Division of Dongtang Police Station. Her home was ransacked. She is being held in the No. 4 Detention Center.
Ms. Zheng Qinglan and other practitioners were arrested in mid-May, 2021 by officers from the Qiangzi Police Station when she was talking to people about Falun Gong on the No. 5 Road in Hebei District.
Ms. Wang Yanbo was harassed at home by a group of people from the Yingcheng Community Management Office in Jiutai District on the morning of May 24, 2021. These people pressured Ms. Wang to sign the three guarantee statements, which she refused.
People from the Baiguo Town Police Station and the Baiguo Town Residential Committee went to the homes of Falun Gong practitioners to harass them on May 1, 2021. Ms. Chen Yuying, Ms. Zhang Baolin, Mr. Deng He, Mr. Zhang Dewen, Ms. Luo Dengju, and Ms. Chen Pingfang were harassed. Some practitioners’ Falun Dafa books and photos of the founder of Falun Gong were confiscated.
Police officers ransacked 78-year-old Ms. Sun Shurong’s home on May 19, 2021. They confiscated keepsakes, Falun Dafa books, weekly publications, and pictures. They also confiscated all the New Year pictures, annual calendars, desk calendars, and blessing characters that were posted, hung, or displayed. Ms. Sun was arrested.
Ms. Sun was interrogated at the Dongtang Police Station. Officers forcibly took her fingerprints, collected her blood samples, and photographed her. They also recorded her voice and gathered her information as though she was a “criminal.” Ms. Sun was given ten days of administrative detention to be served at home.
Officials from the Chengdu Political and Legal Affairs Committee and 610 Office, led by officer Xie Bing of the Mengyang Town Police Station, staff member Wu Yao of the Xingyue Village Community Management Office, and team leader Huang Jun, broke into Mr. Qiu Shengbing’s home in Xingyue Village, Mengyang Town on May 22, 2021. They pressured him to sign guarantee statements renouncing Falun Gong. They threatened that if he did not sign, they would take him to a brainwashing center and would not let his child go to school. Mr. Qiu refused to cooperate.
Mr. Li Tianwei is a teacher at Shuangyang District Training School. In order to force Mr. Li to give up his belief, the school authorities threatened to deduct 10,000 yuan from the performance pay of each faculty and staff member, which amounted to 50% of the 20,000 yuan performance everyone receives.
Mr. Li Xianxi, in his 50s, was arrested by officers staked out near his home on May 11, 2021. His home was ransacked. He was placed in criminal detention and taken to the Anyang City Detention Center the following day.
Mr. Liu Tao was arrested on May 16, 2021. His current whereabouts are unknown.
When Mr. Liu’s wife Ms. Zhang Hongzhen was detained and when she was taken to the brainwashing center (while her family did not know her whereabouts), Mr. Liu insisted on telling organizations responsible for the persecution that it was illegal to arrest his wife. He demanded that she be released immediately. As a result, he was constantly harassed.
Four or five officers led by Jia Xiaohui, head of the Fuping County Domestic Security Division, went to Ms. Fan Zhen’s home on the morning of May 24, 2021. They took Ms. Fan to the hospital for a physical examination, and then to the Baoding City Detention Center.
The detention center insisted that the police take Ms. Fan to the hospital for a physical examination. After the examination, the detention center refused to accept her.
Jia brought Ms. Fan back to the Fuping County Police Department, where she was held overnight. She was released the following day. The police gave her a residential surveillance notice.
Ms. Lu Meixia, who lives in the family quarters of the Nankou Quarry Factory in Changping District, was arrested at home on the morning of May 12, 2021. She is being held in the Beijing No. 1 Detention Center.
A group of police officers broke into Mr. Hao Sanbao’s home, handcuffed him, and ransacked his home in the Xiangfang District on April 19, 2021. They confiscated photos of the founder of Falun Gong, Falun Dafa books, printed materials, several cell phones, and a large amount of cash.
Mr. Hao was taken to the Harbin Railway Police Department for interrogation with transcript. He was then given a physical examination. His blood pressure reading was as high as 200. He was held in custody for about 24 hours, then released on bail after paying 1,000 yuan. However, none of his personal belongings that were confiscated were returned to him.
Ms. Zhou Danfeng was taken to the Changsha Women’s Prison on May 27, 2021.
She was reported to the police on December 28, 2020, for talking to people about Falun Gong. She was arrested and taken to the Pingjiang County Domestic Security Division by officers from the Jiayi Town Police Station.
Ms. Zhou was placed in criminal detention on December 29, and taken to the Yunxi District Detention Center in Yueyang City. The Domestic Security Division subsequently brought charges against her. She was officially placed under arrest by the Pingjiang County Procuratorate in January 2021.
In April 2021, the Criminal Division of Pingjiang County Court tried her and sentenced her to ten months in prison without notifying her family.
Ms. Wang Shuying, about 60, from Chaoyang District, was arrested at her son’s home on May 11, 2021. The police ransacked her home and confiscated Falun Dafa books, printed materials, and other personal belongings. Ms. Wang’s whereabouts are unknown.
In recent days, the Jinchuan District Political and Legal Affairs Committee, in collaboration with the sub-district administration office and the community management office, harassed Mr. Wang Yukang and his wife Ms. Wei Fengling, who are in their 80s, and pressured them to write and sign “four statements” renouncing Falun Gong.
On the morning of May 25, they stayed at the elderly couple’s home and pressured them to sign statements. The couple refused to cooperate.
Mr. You Haijun from Zhongning County was arrested on May 16, 2021. He has been held in the Zhongwei City Detention Center.
Chang’an District police called Ms. Yin Runzhen’s son in March 2021 and asked him to go to the village office. When he went there, a police officer asked, “Does your mother still practice Falun Gong?” He said, “I don’t know.” The officer said, “Sign a statement on behalf of your mother, stating that she will no longer practice. If you don’t sign, your children will not be able to go to college or go abroad, and there will be adverse impact on many other things.” Ms. Yin’s son firmly refused to sign.
The police officer called again and harassed Ms. Yin at noon on May 15, saying that they needed to take photos of her. Someone called her son again on May 16.
Mr. Li Jun, 37, is from Ruiyun Township. Recently his mother has been constantly harassed over the phone by the deputy head of the Shiyang Town government, officers from the Shiyang Town Police Station, Ruiyun Township officials, and Xiaoyan Village head Wu Yande. They told her that if her son wrote guarantee statements they would not bother her again.
The deputy head of the town government called her again on May 26 and told her to ask her son to go home to write and sign guarantee statements. The deputy head said, “I have called you many times. If your son still does not return, we will report him to the County Domestic Security Division and the 610 Office to have him arrested.”
Mr. Li was arrested in Wuhan City, Hubei Province, on December 26, 2018. He was sentenced to two years in prison.
He was tortured and mentally abused in the Wuchang Detention Center. Just one month after entering the detention center, his hair turned completely gray as a result of the persecution, and he suffered from severe stomach bleeding. He was taken to Wuhan Public Security Hospital for treatment for one month before being released on bail in late 2020.
Mr. Li found a part-time job after being released from detention. The constant telephone harassment by police brought tremendous pressure to him and his family.
