(Minghui.org) At least 41 Falun Gong practitioners in Sanhe City, Hebei Province were harassed by local police in September 2022, weeks before the Chinese Communist Party’s 20th National Congress that opened on October 16. The harassment took the forms of phone calls and/or in-person visits. They also videotaped or photographed the practitioners without their consent.
Two officers from the Yanshunlu Police Station came to Ms. Yu Xuelan’s home around September 3 and attempted to photograph her. Ms. Yu, in her 70s, refused to comply. The police then asked her not to practice Falun Gong anymore, so they could report the result to their supervisors. Ms. Yu replied that she wouldn’t stop practicing. In their last attempt, the police tried to stop her from raising awareness about the persecution. Ms. Yu said to them, “That wouldn’t do. I would like to talk to you about it.” Unable to refute her, the police quickly left.
Ms. Niu Xiaoping was visited by two plainclothes officers from Xicheng Police Station on September 21. They asked her whether she still practiced Falun Gong and ordered her not to go out to promote it. One officer attempted to take her photo, but was stopped by her. They left after a brief stay.
Three plainclothes officers from the Xicheng Police Station came to Mr. Zhang Deli’s home on September 25. Each of them was holding a cellphone and wearing a body camera. An officer threatened him not to go to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong.
On September 26, two officers of Dongcheng Police Station went to Mr. Xu Shaozun’s home and photographed him.
Eight practitioners were harassed by officers from Yanshunlu Police Station on September 27, with two officers targeting each practitioner. In most cases, one officer in the front showed a piece of paper to the practitioners and asked them whether they still practiced Falun Gong, while the other one videotaped them from behind.
Staff members from Jiaodaoqiao Residential Committee harassed Ms. Yan Juying at home on September 28 and attempted to take her photos. She refused to comply.
When Ms. Wang Yanhua, in her 50s, refused to open the door for the police when they came to harass her at 10 p.m. on October 8, the police turned off her power supply in retaliation.
Other practitioners who were harassed included Lyu Guansuo, Dong Xiaomiao, Rong Lanrong, Yi Baoyan, Li Guizhi, Xu Shaojing, Bai Yanxia, Zhang Zhiqi, Zhang Xuefu, Niu and Bai.
In addition to the above mentioned harassment cases, Ms. Xie Baofeng was also harassed at home around mid-September. The police questioned whether she still practiced Falun Gong and she said yes.
Mr. Liang Baotian received a call from the local police and village secretary around September 21. They ordered him not to go out to talk to people about Falun Gong. They demanded to meet with him in person on September 28. Mr. Liang tried to clarify the facts about Falun Gong. The police refused to listen.
Ms. Hong Mei was harassed on September 22. Ms. Zhao Fengqin was harassed by three officers on September 23. Ms. Li Guilan and Ms. Tian Yuqin were harassed three business days in a row, on September 23 (Friday), 26 (Monday), and 27 (Tuesday).
Ms. Liu Guifen, nearly 80, was harassed by four officers on September 28. Another four elderly practitioners, including Ms. Liu Zhongying, 78, Ms. Meng Qingyun, in her 70s, Ms. Zhao Shuying, in her 70s, and Ms. Huo Shufeng, in her 80s, were harassed around late September. In particular, Ms. Zhao was harassed in the hospital while caring for her husband.
After having harassed Ms. Pang Xiufeng on August 20, the police went to her home again in late September. Due to frequent harassment in recent years, her family were under tremendous pressure. Ms. Pang has been forced to live away from home to hide from the police.
Four other practitioners who were harassed in late September included Meng Zhaomin, Yu Hongwei, Wang Shuling and Liu Jie.
