(Minghui.org) My husband and I began to practice Falun Dafa in April 1999. My son was four years old then. Now he is 26. Having grown up in a family of Dafa practitioners, he is happy and healthy. He has never needed to take any medicine.
We always paid attention to educating my son with traditional culture and values. When he was little, we often played audio stories of Chinese idioms. Soon he was able to recite many stories himself. When he entered preschool, one of the teachers was a Dafa practitioner. My son was assigned to her class.
One day my son showed us some Falun Dafa exercise movements. He said his teacher taught them. My husband and I realized that Dafa cultivation would be the best education for my son.
We started to teach him poems from Hong Yin. He also often listened to Master’s recorded lectures. Dafa’s principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance are deeply planted in his heart.
It is common for parents in Mainland China to hope their children will stand out in exam-oriented education. Many parents invest a huge amount of money and make children take numerous extra classes. As a result, both parents and children are exhausted and burned out.
When my son reached school age, he was able to read all the poems in Hong Yin. He already knew many Chinese characters and was able to read children’s books.
Unlike most parents, we chose not to enroll him in any extra classes or Olympiad tutoring. We wanted our child to grow and learn naturally and happily. Some relatives and friends did not understand us and thought we were being irresponsible or stingy parents. In fact, we firmly believe that nurturing a child’s spirituality and moral character is most important. We paid more attention to his learning skills rather than test scores and class ranks. In the third grade, we enrolled him in an after-school English class. Dafa gives my son wisdom and extraordinary memory. He could remember the English words after reading them twice. His strong language ability laid a solid foundation for him to study abroad later.
The Chinese Communist Party (CCP)’s brainwashing the Chinese people starts in kindergarten. Elementary school children are required to join the Young Pioneers, a CCP organization. Middle schoolers are asked to join the Communist Youth League. As they begin to work, they are encouraged to join the Communist Party. When joining these organizations, one pledges to devote his or her life to the Communist Party.
Not long after entering middle school, my son came home with a Youth League application form and said every student is required to complete it.
We asked if he wanted to join it. He said: “No I don’t. But our teacher said that not joining would have negative effects on admission to higher education.”
My husband and I told him that what his teacher said won’t count, that Master will arrange his life for him.
The next day, my husband went to school to speak to the lead teacher. He asked the teacher if it is voluntary or mandatory to join the Youth League. The teacher quickly said it is voluntary.
“My son won’t join then,” said my husband.
In high school, my son was the only student who had not joined the Youth League. A teacher called my son to the office and warned him that it would affect his admission to college if he was not a member of the Youth League. At that time, my son already understood that the CCP is evil. He told the teacher firmly that he would not join the Youth League no matter what.
No one asked my son again about joining the CCP organizations. He smoothly went on to get a Master’s degree.
When he was in middle school, my son came home one day and said a taxi ran over his foot earlier that day. I quickly checked his foot, and it looked normal. He described the incident. It happened at the entrance to the school when there was a large crowd of people there. The driver was frightened and offered to bring my son to the hospital. Several parents also urged my son to go to the hospital. My son said he was fine and let the driver leave. I praised him and asked whether it hurt. He said no.
I was very happy that my son had Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance in his heart. I knew Master protected my son.
Cultivation is like rowing a boat against the current. If you don’t advance, you will go backward. During the second year of my son’s middle school, we relaxed in our cultivation. My son’s test scores dropped rapidly. His teacher talked to me and suggested that we enroll him in after-school tutored classes. His Chinese language teacher said he needed to attend after-school classes to improve his writing.
Unlike most parents in China, we never enrolled our son in after-school classes. I asked my son if he wanted to attend one, since his teacher suggested it. He said no.
“I have an idea about how to improve your scores without attending extra classes,” I said. “You pay close attention in your classes. After you get home from school, you listen to Master’s lectures. You will still have spare time for yourself. What do you think?”
My son agreed to try my idea. Everyday he listened to Master’s recorded lectures. Sometimes he read Zhuan Falun. He showed great respect to Dafa. He always washed his hands carefully before picking up the Dafa book, and he urged us to do so as well. He paid attention in class. His scores soon improved. Dafa blessed my son and gave him wisdom. He became the model writing student for his entire grade. His writing was upright and full of compassion. His teacher praised him: “Your writing stands out in your generation!”
After high school, my son was admitted to a foreign language institute. After graduation, he went abroad to pursue his Master’s degree.
In his spare time, he tutored children of various ages for Chinese language. There was a naughty student who did not like to study and often gave his parents problems. My son was kind and patient. After a while, the child’s Chinese language skills improved a lot. His parents were very happy. On my son’s birthday, the child bought a gift from his own savings. He wrote to my son: “You are the best teacher!” Some of the students were interested in Chinese historical stories, so my son told them about some of the famous historical figures and stories from the classical novel Journey to the West.
During his 18 months of study abroad, my son wrote more than 30 academic papers. In 2020, he graduated and received a great job offer, despite the pandemic.
Having grown up in the pure land of Dafa, my son follows the principle of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. He is kind, sincere, brave, and wise. Our family is blessed by Dafa. We are so grateful to Master!
I am sharing the story of my son in the hopes that more people will know “Falun Dafa is good!”
