(Minghui.org) A 55-year-old former flight engineer has faced constant harassment since July 2014, after he finished serving a three-year term for practicing Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
The harassment of Mr. Liu Yongsheng has especially intensified since May this year. On May 1, 2022, Zhang Yurong and Zheng Xue of the Chenghua District Political and Legal Affairs Committee (PLAC), as well as Tan Shuxian of the Fuqing Street Committee, harassed Mr. Liu, who was staying with his 80-year-old mother. They tried to pressure him into renouncing Falun Gong and threatened to implicate his nephew if he didn’t comply. Mr. Liu remains firm in his faith.
The same officers harassed Mr. Liu again at 9 p.m. on September 22. They kept knocking on the door when he refused to let them in. Many of his neighbors were disturbed.
Zhang, Tan, and two other plainclothes officers went to Mr. Liu’s home one more time on the afternoon of September 23. Zhang hit and kicked the door until it opened. Mr. Liu reported her to the police for trespassing.
Shortly after, Bao Xiaomu of the Chengdu City PLAC, went to Mr. Liu’s home, claiming to be checking to see if he had been vaccinated against COVID-19. They took his blood pressure and collected a blood sample before ordering him to sign a piece of paper with unknown content.
Without a search warrant, they searched his home, including his closets and drawers.
Two police officers handled Mr. Liu’s report against Zhang. He went with the police and PLAC officers to the police station. Instead of holding the officers accountable for breaking down Mr. Liu’s door, the police tried to force Mr. Liu to sign a statement to renounce his faith. He tore the prepared statement in half twice and made a tight fist to prevent them from holding his hand to fingerprint the statement. Five male officers held him, spread ink on his fist, and then pressed his fist on the paper as his signature.
The PLAC officers also harassed Mr. Liu’s manager at work and forced him to fire Mr. Liu.
Since the onset of the persecution in 1999, Mr. Liu has been subjected to non-stop harassment and incarceration for upholding his faith. He was fired by the Chengdu Aircraft Design Institute, given a labor camp term of two years and nine months in 2001, and sentenced to three years in 2013.
While in custody, he was deprived of sleep, forced to work excessive hours without pay, and ordered to finish meals in less than five seconds. The guards constantly beat him and shocked him with electric batons. Sometimes they held him in a brick kiln for a long time. His wife divorced him due to the pressure of the persecution.
