(Minghui.org) Two months after Ms. Song Jihua took up Falun Gong, she stood up and walked again, after being bedridden for 15 years. But because of her practicing Falun Gong, she was arrested and is now facing trial.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual discipline with five sets of slow moving exercises. Since its public introduction in May 1992, countless people have enjoyed health improvement, including critically ill patients. Due to Falun Gong’s enormous popularity and revival of traditional values, the Chinese communist regime ordered a nationwide campaign to eradicate Falun Gong from China in July 1999. The persecution remains unabated today.
Ms. Song, a 67-year-old Jiaozhou City, Shandong Province resident, was arrested in a police sweep of local Falun Gong practitioners on June 2, 2021. At least 40 practitioners were later confirmed to have been arrested on the same day. Among them, Mr. Yu Baiqing has been sentenced to eight years and fined 50,000 yuan in April 2022.
While Ms. Song was released on bail due to her physical condition, the police still submitted her case to the procuratorate. She has been indicted and is now facing trial by the Huangdao District Court, the same court that sentenced Mr. Yu.
Yang Haigang, the secretary of Jiaozhou City Political and Legal Affairs Committee, an extra-judiciary agency overseeing public security and judiciary branches, was behind Ms. Song’s prosecution.
Below is the letter written by Ms. Song’s second daughter, detailing the family’s ordeal.
***
When my mother was four years old, a famine broke out in her region. She escaped to the northeast part of the country with her parents. She ate bark and tree leaves in order to survive. She married my father at age 26. After giving birth to my older sister at 29, she became ill.
Initially, she had stomachaches and headaches. Later, she began to have generalized pain in her bones. After the birth of my younger brother in 1990, her health became even worse. She had rheumatism. She felt insects running in her blood vessels. She lost feeling in her left leg and she couldn’t lift her right arm. She also had severe conditions with her stomach, lungs and heart.
Once she managed to get out, only to faint on the street not far from our home. After she was taken to a clinic, I went to see her. I thought she was dead and cried so hard. My siblings and I all lived in fear those days. We were afraid that we may lose our mother at any time, yet we couldn’t do anything to help her.
Our father took our mother to see many doctors. She tried various treatments. But after spending a fortune, her condition still didn’t improve. One doctor in a famous hospital said that most of the diseases my mother had were very rare and hard to cure.
The pain my mother had usually lasted several hours, which left her completely exhausted, without any strength to speak. She had some painkillers, but it had strong side effects on her stomach.
My mother relied on my grandmother to care for her. She was incapacitated and bedridden for the next 15 years. She was so weak that she couldn’t even turn on her own. Breathing sometimes was difficult for her. What I feared the most was that she wouldn't wake up after fainting. She endured second by second. She completely lost hope for life. The only thing she couldn’t let go of were her three children.
My mother was crying every day. Her pillow was constantly wet. As my grandfather’s health was also poor, my grandmother also had to care for him. During the days she was away, we stayed by our mother’s side. I still remembered the scene when my four-year-old brother sat by mother’s bed, scooping water to feed her. Most children our age were playing outside, but we didn’t dare to leave, but had to stay with our mother.
When I was in elementary school, I returned home one afternoon when my brother said he was thirsty and asked me to boil some water for him. I was still too young to use the water bucket. The boiling water splashed on my right hand and a layer of skin fell off. Upon hearing me screaming due to the pain, my mother also cried, yet she couldn’t do anything to help me.
After we grew older, we learned more to care for our mother, including feeding her and turning her body. Unlike most other young children who often played outside, we spent our childhood by our mother’s bed. During the 15 years my mother was ill, it felt our home was always covered by a dark cloud.
Also because of spending the family’s saving on our mother’s medical treatment, we couldn’t afford to have the cheapest instant noodle. I never dared to pass by the convenience store, so as not to see the various food and snacks sold there. When my grandmother came, she often walked over ten miles, to save the transportation fee.
My mother once attempted to commit suicide by drinking insecticide. But she didn’t even have the strength to take the bottle.
One day, I saw a group of people practicing qigong on the street. I heard that it has good effects in curing diseases, so I told my mother about it. My mother became interested and asked me to get information about it. So a Falun Gong practitioner came with me to my home. Upon seeing that my mother’s condition was so serious, he recommended she read the book first. But because my mother never went to school, he gave her some lecture tapes for her to listen to.
After listening to the Falun Gong lectures for two days, my mother said the pain in her bones wasn’t as intense as before. The pain also lasted much shorter and she didn’t feel as miserable afterwards. By the third day, she sat up on her own. On the fourth day, she could eat on her own, without us feeding her.
In less than a week, she could stand on her own while leaning against the wall. Slowly, she was able to walk again. She completely recovered two months later, looking no different from a regular people. She did chores at our own home and also helped my grandmother harvesting wheat in the fall.
Our entire family were so excited and we felt so fortunate to encounter Falun Gong. Everyone in the village, including the doctor who often gave her injections, said it was a miracle! Without spending a penny, my mother was healed!
But after my mother was arrested last year, her health began to decline again due to the mental distress. I submitted several letters to the procuratorate and police, urging them to drop her case. But prosecutor Wang Dan still indicted her and submitted her case to the court. I now ask for help from the international community to pay attention to my mother’s case.
