(Minghui.org) It has been recently confirmed by Minghui.org that a 66-year-old Zhuhai City, Guangdong Province resident was sentenced to three years and five months in 2021 for practicing Falun Gong and her appeal was recently rejected.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Ma Lina was arrested on January 26, 2021 after being reported for distributing informational materials about Falun Gong. The police ransacked her home on January 29 and took away her Falun Gong books, informational materials and a media player she used to play the Falun Gong exercise music.
Ms. Ma was held at the Xiangzhou District Detention Center. Her arrest was approved by the Xiangzhou District Procuratorate on February 8, 2021.
The Xiangzhou District Court sentenced her to three years and five months with a 3,000-yuan fine in September 2021. She appealed with the Zhuhai City Intermediate Court. The judge ruled to uphold her original verdict on January 27, 2022.
In addition to Ms. Ma, three other local residents were also sentenced by the Xiangzhou District Court in recent years for practicing Falun Gong.
Ms. Li Zhilian and Ms. Li Xiulian were both arrested on September 25, 2021 and sentenced to eight and four years, respectively. Ms. Li Zhilian was subjected to constant torture in a detention center and she passed away on June 8, 2022, two days after she was released on medical parole.
Another practitioner, Ms. Yu Aihua, in her 70s, was arrested on November 1, 2021 after being reported for raising awareness of the persecution. She was released four days later due to her poor health and placed under residential surveillance. She was sentenced to 5.5 years with a 10,000-yuan fine on December 21, 2022.
