(Minghui.org) A Jinzhou City, Liaoning Province resident in her late 60s was recently sentenced to two years for her faith in Falun Gong, a mind-body discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999. Denied visitation, her family is now very worried about her.
Ms. Fan Lingxiu was arrested in March 2022 after being reported for talking to people about Falun Gong. She was soon released on bail due to a health condition.
The police took Ms. Fan back into custody on September 20 by lying to her that they were dismissing her case. After arresting her, the police told her family that they would release her after the 20th Party Congress in mid-October. Yet after two weeks of quarantine at the Yi County Detention Center, Ms. Fan was transferred to the Jinzhou City Women’s Detention Center and has been held there since.
The police later submitted Ms. Fan’s case to the Linghai City Procuratorate, which then indicted her and moved her case to the Linghai City Court, resulting in her two-year prison sentence. Both the Linghai City Procuratorate and Linghai City Court are designated to handle Falun Gong cases in the region.
Over the past few years, Ms. Fan has been arrested several times for talking to people about Falun Gong.
She was seized by the police on October 31, 2014. As she refused to take off her clothes for the body search upon arrival at the detention center, the guards ordered the inmates to beat her, causing severe injury to her ribs. The pain lasted over a month. She was also ordered to write statements to renounce Falun Gong. The guards released her after extorting a huge fine from her.
Ms. Fan was arrested again on December 29, 2017 for talking to people about Falun Gong at a farmers market. She was detained at the Jinzhou City Lockup for ten days.
