(Minghui.org) Today's news from China includes incidents of persecution that took place in 13 cities or counties in 8 provinces, where at least 20 practitioners were recently persecuted for their belief.
Ms. Zhang Sulin, first secretary of the Archives Library of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, was tried in court in November 2022. She was sentenced to one and a half years in prison, and was subsequently dismissed from public office.
Ms. Zhang was followed by someone while placing Falun Gong truth-clarification materials on a bicycle parked along Chaonei Street, Dongcheng District, and was reported to the police. She was arrested by the Dongcheng District Police Station in September 2021. The officers ransacked her home in Chaoyang District, and confiscated Falun Dafa books among other personal items as "evidence."
In November 2022, Ms. Zhang was tried by the Beijing Municipal Court, sentenced to one year and six months in prison, and fined 3,000 yuan for the so-called “using a (slanderous term deleted) organization to undermining law enforcement.” The Party Committee of Ms. Zhang’s work unit, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, issued an administrative penalty and dismissed her from public office.
The Mawei District Court will continue hold hearings on the cases of Ms. Chen Xue, Ms. Huang Bixian, and Ms. Weng Meichai at 9 a.m. on February 17, 2023.
Mr. Han Jinjing and Ms. Gao Xiuping from Jizhou District will be tried on February 14, 2023.
The High-tech District Court has scheduled a trial for Mr. Qu Xing at 1:30 p.m. on February 15, 2023.
Ms. Xu Yanhua was arrested by officers from the Caiyu Street Police Station Jingyue District, on February 10, 2023. She was taken to a detention center the following day.
Ms. Xu was previously arrested in May 2022, and had since been displaced. During this period, officers from the Caiyu Street Police Station went to Ms. Xu’s relatives’ homes repeatedly to locate her, and arrested her son, Mr. Wang Peng.
Mr. Wang Guohui and Ms. Yu Chunli were followed and arrested by officers from the Jihongtan Police Station on October 27, 2022. After they were held in custody for over half a month, Mr. Wang’s son called a supervisor, who oversaw police station work, to ask about Mr. Wang’s situation. Jihongtan Police Station officers took this as an excuse to extend the custody of the two practitioners. Both practitioners were to wear handcuffs for 30 days, and each received only one steamed bun, one bag of pickles, and no vegetables every day.
Mr. Wang was taken to a quarantine facility, where he was still not given enough food. Ms. Yu was held in the police station for over 80 days. She is currently being held at the Pudong Detention Center.
Mr. Yang Weihua and his wife were body-searched and their suitcases rummaged through by railway police officers while the couple were waiting in line to board the train at Changchun Railway Station. The officers confiscated a copy of Zhuan Falun and followed them back home to ransack the place.
Ms. Xiang Deyu, 83, and Ms. Meng Daole, 77, were harassed and their homes ransacked by officers from the Gaosheng Street Police Station in early February 2023. They were taken to the police station for interrogation. Details of their current situation are not clear.
Ms. Zhang Guangying from Ying’emen Town was videotaped and reported to the police by villagers when she was posting truth-clarification materials on the afternoon of February 10, 2023. Ms. Zhang was arrested by the Ying’emen Town Police Station. She was given 10 days of detention for "public order violations." She is being held in the Fushun City Detention Center.
Mr. Gao Ke was arrested by the Jingyu Police Station, Daowai District, on September 14, 2022, for distributing desk calendars with Falun Gong content. He was released on bail due to high blood pressure. Zhao Gang, who handled his case, called Mr. Gao on February 5, 2023, and asked him to go to the Daowai District Procuratorate.
On February 9, Zhao Gang and other officers, led by the political head of the police station, went to Mr. Zhao’s home and took him to the procuratorate for interrogation.
The Taihu County Court issued notices that the court would hold hearings on the cases of Mr. Huang Zhisong and Mr. Jiang Xiagen on February 24, 2023.
Mr. Pei Zhenpeng was arrested on August 29, 2019 and has not been heard from since. According to reliable accounts from Falun Gong practitioners released from prison, Mr. Pei was held in the brainwashing center on the third floor of a No. 9 Ward building in Gongzhuling Prison. He was pressured to sign the “five statements” (renouncing Falun Gong) watch brainwashing videos, and read Buddhist books every day.
Ms. Zeng Zulian clarified the facts about Falun Gong to a police assistant and gave him a desktop calendar on the morning of November 22, 2022. The man arrested her and took her to the Lianshan Police Station. The officers ransacked her home and found nothing they were looking for. Ms. Zeng was released that day.
Some time after 9 a.m. on February 2, 2023, Ms. Zeng was clarifying the truth on the street of Lianshan Town. The police assistant spotted her, grabbed her truth-clarification materials, took pictures, and knocked her to the ground. He pressed his knees into her back, handcuffed her, and took her to the Lianshan Police Station.
After learning about her arrest, Ms. Zeng’s husband went to the police station to demand her release. She was released after 12 noon that day.
