(Minghui.org) As Ms. Zang Cuiqing’s husband and son tried to stop the police from harassing her for practicing Falun Gong, the police arrested the family of three as a result.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Zang, a Zhuozhou City, Hebei Province resident in her 60s, was harassed at home on March 24, 2023 by three officers. Upon seeing her son taking photos of them, the police snatched his cellphone, threw it on the ground and handcuffed him. Ms. Zang’s husband rushed over and tried to stop the police, only to be held by the police and handcuffed himself. The three family members were all taken to the local police station.
While Ms. Zang’s son was released that evening, she and her husband remain detained at the Zhuozhou City Lockup.
Ms. Zang has been repeatedly arrested and harassed for her faith since the onset of the persecution.
She and four other Zhuozhou practitioners went to Beijing to appeal for the right to practice Falun Gong and were arrested there on October 1, 2000. The Zhuozhou government officials arranged for people to pick them up from Beijing and bring them back. The authorities exposed them to the low temperature outdoors for seven days before handcuffing them and hanging them up by the wrists for three days. They weren’t allowed to eat or sleep during the time. The officials claimed that they received an order from above that they could torture the practitioners as counterrevolutionaries and that they wouldn’t be held accountable if they beat the practitioners to death.
Han Zhanshan, secretary of the Zhuozhou City Political and Legal Affairs Committee (PLAC), interrogated the practitioners on October 12, 2000. As the practitioners maintained that they wouldn’t give up practicing Falun Gong, Han ordered his subordinates to beat them.
Ren Binghui, the village PLAC secretary, put Ms. Zang down and dragged her on the ground. A group of officers surrounded her and enjoyed looking at how Ren lifted her clothes up to her shoulder and took off her clothes, leaving only her underwear.
Ma Shuhai, the village Party secretary, along with a few other officers, beat Ms. Zang and whipped her with braided high-voltage cable.
After a while, Ren suggested to separate the cable, as the thinner wires would inflict more pain. They kept beating Ms. Zang until she fainted. Then they poured cold water over her. After she came to, they hung her up again by the wrists, but without allowing her to put her pants back on. She was left hanging in public space for a long time and many people saw her.
Just as Ren was trying to put her pants on as he felt the humiliation was enough, Bai Jinghua, the village president, stopped him. Bai kicked hard on the front side of Ms. Zang’s calf, leaving her swinging in the air.
Bai’s kick excited Ren. He questioned Ms. Zang, “Are you still practicing Falun Gong?” As she said yes, Ren ordered people to force her to drink a few cups of ice cold water, attempting to force her to relieve herself in the underwear. He also dumped a basin of water into Ms. Zang’s clothes.
