(Minghui.org) A Beijing resident was sentenced to prison in late 2022 for practicing Falun Gong and his appeal was denied months later.

Mr. Zhang Licheng, 62, was arrested at home on December 8, 2021. His computer, printer and cellphone were confiscated. He was charged with “undermining law enforcement with a cult organization,” the standard pretext used to criminalize Falun Gong. The Shijingshan District Court sentenced him to two years and ten months, with a 6,000-yuan fine, on October 28, 2022.

Mr. Zhang appealed with the Beijing City No. 1 Intermediate Court, which ruled to uphold his original verdict on January 16, 2023.

This isn’t the first time that Mr. Zhang has been targeted for practicing Falun Gong, after the Chinese communist regime launched the persecution in 1999.

Following an arrest on May 20, 2008, he was given a 2-year labor camp term. Only a year after he returned home, he was arrested again on June 22, 2011 and given another 2.5-year labor camp term a month later.

For filing a criminal complaint against Jiang Zemin, the former head of the Chinese Communist Party who ordered the persecution, Mr. Zhang was arrested on August 12, 2015 and detained for seven days.

He was arrested again on June 13, 2016 and taken to a brainwashing center.

The police arrested him another time on September 1, 2018, after suspecting him of distributing informational materials about Falun Gong. He insisted that he didn’t violate any law in practicing his faith or possessing any materials about it. He was held at the Haidian District Detention Center until September 28, 2018.
