(Minghui.org) Today's news from China includes incidents of persecution that took place in 13 cities or counties in 9 provinces, where at least 20 practitioners were recently persecuted for their belief.
Ms. Sun Zhongshu is scheduled to be tried in court on September 10, 2023.
Ms. Gu Zhonglan was arrested at home on the morning of August 10, 2023 by seven or eight officers from the Dongchuan District Domestic Security Division. The officers ransacked her home and seized her Falun Gong books and other belongings. She was taken to the Bigu Police Station for interrogation. The officers said that she was recorded by the surveillance system while distributing Falun Gong flyers on the street. She was released at around 5:00 p.m.
Ms. Shi Zufang was arrested after 10:00 a.m. on August 10, 2023. Eight officers from the Domestic Security Division went to her home and told her, “The surveillance system recorded you distributing Falun Gong flyers on August 5. We will search your home.” They confiscated all her Falun Gong books and materials, took her to the Bigu Police Station, interrogated her, forcibly took her fingerprints, collected a blood sample, photographed her, and ordered her to pay bail money. She was given 12-month release on bail and sent home after 5:00 p.m. Shaba Community clerks went to her home on August 14 and threatened her, “Your welfare allowance will be stopped if you go out to distribute flyers again.”
Ms. Qu Mingzhu of Bin County was arrested by Harbin police on August 18, 2023 for distributing Falun Gong flyers. The officers searched her apartment on Junmin Street, Harbin City, and seized her Falun Gong books. She is being held in the Yaziquan Detention Center.
Mr. Wang Ligong, 75, of Changchun City, was taken away from home by four men on the morning of August 26, 2023. His whereabouts are unknown.
He and his wife, Ms. Gong Shuying, were arrested in front of their home on May 18, 2023 by officers from the Nanhu Police Station who were stationed there. Mr. Wang was released on bail because of his health. Ms. Gong has since been held in the Changchun City Prison Management Center. Her attorney is not allowed to visit her. Her case is at the Chaoyang District Procuratorate.
Ms. Hou Guihua and Qin Baoqun, gender unknown, talked to people about the persecution of Falun Gong on the afternoon of August 15, 2023, and someone reported them. They were arrested and taken to the Huixian City Police Department by Cheng Tao and others from the Nanzhai Town Police Station in Huixian City. They were interrogated until 2:00 a.m. They were taken home and told to stay there and wait for the police.
On August 16, Cheng Tao and another officer confiscated Falun Gong books from both practitioners’ homes.
On August 17, Cheng Tao and other officers arrested both practitioners, and held them in the Nanzhai Town government until 10:00 p.m.
On August 18, Cheng Tao and other officers went to Ms. Hou’s home to arrest her, but she was not there. She has since left home to avoid further persecution. Qin was arrested and taken directly to the Xinxiang City Detention Center.
Taian County Domestic Security officers arrested Ms. Xu Lichun, who was caring for a child at her home, at 6:00 a.m. on August 13, 2023. She was formally arrested on August 26. She is being held in the Anshan City No. 1 Detention Center.
Ms. Fan Shuyin, 73, lives in Baoding City Cotton Mill’s dormitory. She was arrested by officers from the Wuyao Township Police Station in an open market on February 18, 2022. They collected her fingerprints, signature, and blood samples. She was released at around 5:00 p.m.
She was arrested again at her home on the morning of March 27, 2022 by police station officers led by director Wang Li. She did not comply with any orders while she was held in the police station and was released that evening.
Using threats and force, Wang Li and officers took her to the Gaoyang County Procuratorate on July 27, 2022. They later claimed she was given a year of release on bail.
Ms. Fan was arrested without warning and taken to the Baoding City Detention Center on August 23, 2023.
Ms. Huang Yanli lives in the Xi’an District. Her family said they have not seen her since August 11, 2023. Her close friend said that before she disappeared she was taken to the local police station by officers, but was later released.
Ms. Wu Yongzhen of Huayuan County was arrested at home by a county police department officer at noon on February 20, 2023. The officers confiscated her Falun Gong books and materials. She was taken to the local detention center the same day and transferred ten days later to the Xiangxi Prefecture Detention Center, where she was held for 39 days until she developed health issues and was released on bail.
Ms. Dong Zailin, 71, of Yuhua District, was arrested by two officers from the Shazitang Police Station on July 20, 2023 for talking to pupils about Falun Gong. The officers ransacked her home and seized her computer and printer. She was taken to the Changsha No. 4 Detention Center.
Three practitioners from Lisi Village were harassed at home on August 23, 2023 by three officers from the Xicheng District Police Station guided by the village’s brigade secretary. Ms. Wu Cuijuan was not at home. The officers seized her picture of Falun Gong’s founder. They went to Ms. Li Cuihua’s home and took a wall calendar with Falun Gong messages on it. They asked if she still practiced Falun Gong and tried to grab a picture of Falun Gong’s founder. She held it tightly and they did not get it. They went to Ms. Zhao Fengjuan’s home, asked if she still practiced Falun Gong, and tried to seize a picture of Falun Gong’s founder. She resisted and they were unable to take it.
Ms. Sun Dongmei was arrested on Daxi Street by officers in a patrol car on August 22, 2023. Her family looked for her at the Beijie Police Station and learned that she had been detained and was being held in the Chaoyang City Detention Center.
Ms. Liu Yufang wrote a letter to the Liaoning Province’s Lingyuan Inspection Team in May 2023. She described how her husband, Mr. Liu Dianyuan, had been unjustly sentenced to eleven-and-a-half-years in prison by Jianping County Domestic Security Division captain Jiang Jie and Zhang Lihui, along with Jianping County Court judge Li Yan. She also asked for the release of her husband, who was imprisoned for seven years and was bedridden. The Inspection Team transferred her letter to the Lingyuan City Domestic Security Division. The latter called her while she was in Huludao City. They said they would settle it when she returned. But as soon as she returned, they arrested her and held her in the Chaoyang City Detention Center. Her family went to the Lingyuan City Police Department and questioned their actions. The Domestic Security Division captain claimed that they had not deceive anyone.
Miao Shubao, gender unknown, was sentenced to three years in prison and is incarcerated in the Shandong Prison.
