Oct. 24, 2024 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Heilongjiang Province, China

(Minghui.org) Mr. Liu Min, a 57-year-old farmer from Bin County, Heilongjiang Province, was sentenced to one year on June 27, 2024 for practicing Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since July 1999.

Mr. Liu was arrested at the Harbin City Rail Station after 5 p.m. on January 31, 2023, as he was boarding a train to Beijing to do odd jobs during the farming off-season. Harbin is the capital city of Heilongjiang Province and oversees Bin County.

The railway police notified their counterparts in Bin County to pick Mr. Liu up. He was directly taken to the Bin County First Detention Center. Four officers from the Bin County Police Department broke into his home around 7 p.m. that day and confiscated his Falun Gong books and informational materials.

Mr. Liu was released on bail half a month later. The police submitted his case to the Yilan County Procuratorate, which indicted him at an unknown date. The Yilan County Court sentenced him to one year on June 27, 2024. He was transferred to the Hulan Prison in late September 2024.

This is not the first time that Mr. Liu has been targeted for his faith. Four officers from the Chang’an Town Police Station, including Shi Yue, Bao Wenzheng, Yu Xiangjun, and Zhang (first name unknown) broke into his home on December 17, 2015. They confiscated his Falun Gong books and took him to the police station for interrogation. Then-chief Xu Changqing and officer Yu drove him to the Bin County Lockup later that day to serve a 15-day detention.

Chief Wang Qing of the Chang’an Town Police Station led more than ten officers, including Liu Shoufa, and raided Mr. Liu’s home on February 10, 2022. They seized his laptop, printer, and numerous Falun Gong books. They forced his wife Ms. Guo Yazhen to fingerprint some paperwork. While Mr. Liu escaped the arrest at the time, he was forced to go into hiding and did not return home until more than six months later.
