(Minghui.org) A Tonghua City, Jilin Province, resident completed a two-year prison sentence on August 11, 2024, only to face frequent harassment from the local police and community workers.
Mr. Yue Chunguang’s ordeal stemmed from his firm faith in Falun Gong, a mind-body practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since July 1999. He was arrested on August 11, 2022, and secretly tried on February 13, 2023. According to an insider, the Liuhe County Court didn’t inform his family of the trial for fear of him detailing in court how he had been persecuted for practicing Falun Gong. He wasn’t represented by a lawyer either. The presiding judge secretly sentenced him to two years with a 5,000-yuan fine between June and July 2023.
The judge also froze Mr. Yue’s bank account and garnished 5,000 yuan from it to pay his court fine. He was later transferred to the Gongzhuling Prison at an unknown date.
The prison guards forced Mr. Yue, who stands at 5’11, to sit on a small stool motionless for long hours every day. His buttocks festered as a result. To prevent him from moving, the guards taped his legs together and twisted his hands behind his back. They also only gave him meager amounts of food to eat (sometimes only a tiny steamed bun for one meal). He was reduced to just skin and bones.
After Mr. Yue was released on August 11, 2024, the local police and community workers kept harassing him at home, in an attempt to make him renounce Falun Gong.
