It was recently confirmed by Minghui.org that a Jilin City, Jilin Province, resident passed away in mid-April 2013, after she struggled with failing health for a decade due to the persecution of her faith, Falun Gong. She was 73.
Ms. Zhao Yulian began to practice Falun Gong in 1996. Her insomnia and other long-term ailments soon disappeared. In addition to the health benefits, she also became a more considerate person by following Falun Gong’s principles of Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance.
After the Chinese communist regime began to persecute Falun Gong in 1999, Ms. Zhao used various means to speak up for her faith. She and another practitioner went to Beijing to appeal on October 25, 2000 and were arrested. The police beat and interrogated them for three hours before releasing them.
Ms. Zhao was arrested again on the evening of November 16, 2000 while distributing informational materials about Falun Gong. She was beaten at the Jilin City Police Department. A police director surnamed Huang beat her and hung her up by the wrists. Another officer hit her body with sand bags. The police tortured her the entire night and then took her to the Jilin City Detention Center in the morning.
Ms. Zhao was given a three-year labor camp term on December 13, 2000. Due to the savage beating after her arrest, she suffered dangerously high blood pressure. The labor camp initially refused to admit her, but later accepted her at the police’s demand. They informed her family to pick her up ten days later on December 23.
Upon returning home, Ms. Zhao often had nightmares. She didn’t dare to turn off the lights at night. She avoided taking showers or drinking water, fearing that she might choke on water. She couldn’t keep her balance while walking and also had persistent headaches and high blood pressure. She had cerebellar atrophy three years later and fell into a delirious state. She passed away in mid-April 2013.
