(Minghui.org) A 68-year-old woman in Qian Gorlos Mongol Autonomous County (also known as Qianguo County), Jilin Province, was admitted to the Jilin Province Women’s Prison to serve a three-year term for practicing Falun Gong.
Ms. Zhang Chengyan’s ordeal began on November 30, 2023, when five officers from the Baiyilaga Township, Qianguo County, scaled her fence and broke into her home. They questioned her and asked whether she still practiced Falun Gong. They confiscated her music player and a few pendants with Falun Gong messages. They held her at the Qianguo County Lockup for seven days and extorted 10,000 yuan from her family.
On December 10, 2023, only three days after her release, officers from the Songyuan City Domestic Security Division arrested Ms. Zhang again and took her to the Songyuan City Detention Center (located in Shanyou Town). Songyuan oversees Qiaoguo County.
The police confiscated Ms. Zhang’s and her family members’ cell phones during her second arrest. While her family managed to get their phones back, they suspected that the police installed surveillance apps on them.
When Ms. Zhang’s family went to the detention center to visit her, they were told she was no longer there. Neither the detention center nor the police would tell them where she was taken. They recently learned from an insider that she was sent to prison. They still do not know when she was indicted, tried, sentenced, or transferred to prison.
Ms. Zhang recovered from a long list of ailments, including viral keratitis, chronic gastritis, severe insomnia, peripheral nerve disorders, frozen shoulder, back pain, and chronic cough, after she took up Falun Gong in August 1997. She also became a calmer and kinder person. Her family couldn’t understand why the communist regime would jail her for practicing her faith that restored her health.
