(Minghui.org) A 57-year-old resident of Ning’an City, Heilongjiang Province, was indicted in late March 2024 for her faith in Falun Gong, a mind-body practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since July 1999.
Ms. Lu Wenge’s indictment stemmed from her arrest on September 14, 2022, after she was reported for talking to people about Falun Gong. Because her ailing husband relied on her for care, she was released under house arrest that day. The Dongjing Township Forestry Police Department was tasked with monitoring her.
The police later submitted Ms. Lu’s case to the Hailin City Procuratorate. Both Hailin City and Ning’an City are under the administration of Mudanjiang City, with the former designated to handle all Falun Gong cases in the region.
Four people from the procuratorate and two police officers from Ning’an City came to harass Ms. Lu at around 10:30 a.m. on January 9, 2024. One procuratorate worker said, “I am Duan Hui from the Hailin City Procuratorate. I am not afraid of having my name published on the perpetrators’ list on Minghui.org. I have no concerns for retributions at all! The Party gives you everything and yet you went against it.” He ordered Ms. Lu to sign some paperwork. She refused and her husband signed on her behalf.
Before leaving, these people warned Ms. Lu to report to them any time she was summoned. Another group of agents delivered an indictment by prosecutor Dong Yulong (+86-453-7103911) to her home in mid-March 2024. They told her that her case has been forwarded to the Hailin City Court, which would soon schedule a trial.
Ms. Lu started working at a wood processing plant at the age of 18. She developed migraines after years of being on night shifts. When her child was three, she and her husband were both laid off from their jobs. Her husband had back pain and could not do heavy labor.
Ms. Lu’s migraines worsened as she struggled to support her family. She became emaciated, had blood in her urine, and felt dizzy all the time. Her poor health and financial struggle also strained her relationship with her mother-in-law, whose house the couple resided in. The two women fought all the time. Ms. Lu eventually moved out with her husband and child. She vowed to never see her mother-in-law again.
An acquaintance introduced Falun Gong to Ms. Lu one day. She was drawn to Falun Gong’s principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance and decided to take up the practice. She learned to be more considerate and repaired her relationship with her mother-in-law. She and her family moved back in with the older woman so they could help take care of her.
Ms. Lu’s health improved too and she got hired back at the wood processing factory. She was once underpaid 200 yuan because a coworker stole the products she made. Her supervisor reprimanded the offender in front of her and adjusted her pay accordingly. He also sought her opinion as to whether a simple warning to the offender was sufficient. Ms. Lu said yes, because Falun Gong’s principles taught her to be forgiving.
On another occasion, the factory owner had trouble meeting a deadline to deliver certain goods the next day. No one else was willing to work overnight to get the products finished for delivery. He approached Ms. Liu and she said yes without hesitation. The two of them worked tje entire night and got everything done by the next morning. The owner was greatly relieved that he met the contractual obligations; otherwise he would not have received any sales revenue to pay his workers.
Ms. Lu later quit the factory job and went to work at a restaurant. One month, she realized that she'd been overpaid 1,000 yuan. She talked to her supervisor who insisted the amount was correct. She suggested they review the calculations together and her supervisor then noted he had indeed miscalculated her pay. She returned the overpayment, and her boss couldn’t thank her enough.
Even Ms. Lu’s persecutors acknowledged her high moral standards. Once, a street committee director and a police officer went to harass her at home again per orders from higher-ups. The officer admitted to her, “We’ve investigated all the places where you have worked and your employers all said you were a conscientious worker.” The street committee director said he heard from many neighbors that Ms. Lu treated her mother-in-law really well.
