(Minghui.org) A 49-year-old Lanzhou City, Gansu Province, resident, was finally granted a family visit six months after she was jailed to serve a three-year term for practicing Falun Gong.
After Ms. Jin Yijun was admitted to the Gansu Province Women’s Prison on December 4, 2023, the prison denied her family’s visitation request, on the grounds that newly admitted Falun Gong practitioners were not allowed any family visits. Her family went to the prison every month since then, but the prison kept denying their visitation requests as Ms. Jin refused to renounce Falun Gong.
According to an insider, because Ms. Jin upheld her faith, she was forced to squat for long hours. The guards poured cold water onto her winter jacket and pants and dragged her around in the hallway. They also ordered her to write “thought reports” every day.
In late June 2024, the prison finally allowed Ms. Jin’s family to visit her. Her loved ones noted that she looked fine. The visitation was under the guards’ watch and only lasted ten minutes, when the regular visiting session is half an hour.
Ms. Jin was arrested on September 24, 2021 and sentenced to three years with a 5,000 yuan fine by the Chengguan District Court on August 11, 2023. She filed an appeal with the Lanzhou City Intermediate Court, which ruled to uphold her original verdict.
On December 2, 2023, two days before her prison transfer, her family were finally allowed to see her for the first time since her arrest.
Ms. Jin used to work at a law firm, but could no longer practice law after the Lanzhou City Judicial Bureau refused to renew her law license in 2013 because of her faith in Falun Gong.
