(Minghui.org) A 48-year-old resident in Shenzhen City, Guangdong Province, was sentenced to four years on May 13, 2024 for practicing Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Sheng Li, the owner of an export company, was arrested on June 19, 2023, after being reported by a middle school student for giving him a Falun Gong booklet. The student turned in the booklet to the security director of his school, who then called the police, resulting in Ms. Sheng’s arrest.
Ms. Sheng was put on criminal detention at the Jiuwei Detention Center and later indicted by prosecutor Zhao Dan. She stood trial on May 13, 2024 and was convicted by judge Zhang Guohui. Other details about her case are not clear.
Ms. Sheng is a native of Dalian City, Liaoning Province. She started her own company in Shenzhen after graduating from college. She later got married and gave birth to a son and a daughter. But as a result of the hard work and stress while running the company, she suffered long-term insomnia and other physical conditions. She sought various treatments, but to no avail. In August 2019, she began to practice Falun Gong and soon became healthy.
In her spare time, Ms. Sheng talked to people about Falun Gong, hoping to share her story and raise awareness about the persecution. She was recorded by surveillance cameras while talking to people in May 2020 and arrested by officers of the Baoan Police Station. She was detained at the Baoan Detention Center. The Nanshan District Court sentenced her to seventeen months with a 2,000-yuan fine. She was released around October 2021, only to be arrested less than three years later and sentenced again.
