(Minghui.org) Three male officers pulled down Ms. Meng Chunying’s pants and pushed her down on a toilet seat, before using a catheter to collect her urine sample.
The police from the Taihe District Domestic Security Division in Jinzhou City, Liaoning Province were trying to get Ms. Meng admitted to the local detention center after arresting her hours earlier on April 14, 2024.
Ms. Meng was targeted for her faith in Falun Gong, a mind-body practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since July 1999. The police raided her home and confiscated a large amount of valuables. During the interrogation, they kicked her so hard that her right inner thigh was badly bruised.
The police next took her to a hospital for the physical examination required by the local detention center. When she refused to give a urine sample, they did the aforementioned unthinkable act. According to Article 237 of China’s Criminal Law, the three male officers should face up to five years of prison time for acting indecently against and insulting a woman.
Ms. Meng took up Falun Gong in fall of 1998 and soon recovered from her breast hyperplasia, gastric ulcer, and stubborn scalp itching. After the persecution began in 1999, she was repeatedly targeted and at one time had to live away from home to avoid being harassed.
She was previously arrested on July 2, 2008 and taken to the Ling’an Police Station. The police moved her to the Jinzhou City Detention Center that night and she was admitted to the Mansanjia Labor Camp on July 24, 2008 to serve an unknown term. She was forced to do unpaid labor for long hours, including using toxic glue to make plastic flowers and brown paper bags without any protection. She was also forced to watch anti-Falun Gong videos and ordered to renounce her faith. The guards barred her from calling her family or purchasing daily necessities.
Besides Ms. Meng, six other local practitioners were also arrested in mid-April 2024. Mr. Sun Jian, a native of Panjin City of the same province, was arrested at his rental place in Jinzhou on April 13, 2024 and detained at the Nanshan Detention Center.
Ms. Liu Jingju, around 70, was arrested at home the next morning by officers from the Taihe District Domestic Security Division. Her home was ransacked. Mr. Wang Zhoushan was also arrested that same day.
Ms. Zhang Yaming, Ms. Wang Guiling and Ms. Liu Yurong were arrested between April 13 and 15, 2024.
The police in Jinzhou monitored the practitioners for months before arresting them. They followed the practitioners on foot and installed surveillance cameras near their homes, and in some cases, placed tracking devices on their electric bikes.
Mr. Sun and Ms. Zhang’s cases were submitted to the Linghai City Procuratorate by officers from the Zijing Police Station on June 18, 2024. The other five practitioners’ cases were also submitted to the Linghai City Procuratorate, by Li Lei and Li Xing of the Taihe District Domestic Security Division.
Prosecutor Li Feng indicted all seven practitioners in July and moved their cases to the Linghai City Court. Judge Xu Bing was assigned to Mr. Sun and Ms. Zhang’s cases and judge Cheng Cheng is in charge of the other five practitioners’ cases.
