(Minghui.org) Minghui.org learned in September 2024 that a 52-year-old resident of Heishan County, Liaoning Province, has been admitted to Division 9 of the Jinzhou Prison after losing his appeal to revoke a four-year prison term.
Mr. Han Chunlong was arrested on October 2, 2023 for his faith in Falun Gong, a mind-body practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since July 1999. He was sentenced to four years and fined 30,000 yuan by the Dadong District Court in Shenyang City on March 25, 2024. The Shenyang City Intermediate Court rejected his appeal on an unknown date, and he was subsequently transferred to prison.
Mr. Han was known to locals as a frail man. He suffered from many diseases, including tuberculosis of the third and fourth lumbar vertebrae, tuberculosis of the big toe of his right foot, and kidney stones. His left kidney later stopped functioning and had to be removed. He struggled to walk, much less do any work. No medical treatments helped, despite his spending a fortune seeking a cure. Adding insult to injury, his wife divorced him not long after they got married.
Mr. Han’s fate changed in March 1998 when he took up Falun Gong. He gradually recovered from his diseases and became stronger. He also quit smoking and playing table games (which took up a lot of his time and usually involved gambling). He was able to work again. He remarried and started a vendor business with his second wife. The couple’s happy life didn’t last long though. After the persecution of Falun Gong began in July 1999, Mr. Han was repeatedly targeted for upholding his faith.
Prior to his latest prison sentence, Mr. Han served four years, from 2012 to 2016, and endured horrific torture. See the related reports for details of his past persecution and latest sentencing.
