(Minghui.org) A 59-year-old retired physician in Lanzhou City, Gansu Province lost her appeal against a wrongful conviction in June 2024 and was subsequently admitted to the Gansu Province Women’s Prison.

Ms. Liu Guifang was arrested on May 30, 2023 after being reported by a student for talking to him about the Chinese Communist Party’s persecution of Falun Gong. The arresting officers from the Xiaoxihu Police Station and the Qilihe District Domestic Security Division raided her home and confiscated her Falun Gong books, laptop and paper currency printed with Falun Gong messages (as a way to raise awareness of the persecution).

The police held Ms. Liu at an unknown location before transferring her to the Lanzhou City First Detention Center on June 9, 2023. They later submitted her case to the Chengguan District Procuratorate.

Prosecutor Li Xiaomei and her assistant He Xin indicted Ms. Liu on August 2, 2023. The Chengguan District Court heard the case on November 9, 2023.

Judge Teng Xiaoqiong later sentenced Ms. Liu to three years and four months despite her and her lawyer’s request for acquittal.

Ms. Liu’s appeal was rejected in June 2024, and she was transferred to the Gansu Province Women’s Prison located in Jiuzhou Economic Development Zone in Lanzhou City.
