(Minghui.org) Today’s news from China includes incidents of persecution that took place in 8 cities or counties in 6 provinces, where at least 17 practitioners were recently persecuted for their belief.

1. [Meizhou City, Guangdong Province] Six Practitioners Facing Trial

Six Falun Dafa practitioners are scheduled to stand trial at the Meixian District Court at 9:30 a.m. on September 12, 2024. The practitioners include Ms. Zeng Xiuqiong, Ms. Zhang Taofeng, Ms. Xie Guofen, Ms. Li Lizhen, Ms. Huang Shuzhen, and Ms. Liu Meifen. They were indicted by prosecutor Li Bing of the Meixian District Procuratorate.

Ms. Huang and Ms. Liu are currently out on bail. The other four practitioners are detained in the Chengdong Town Detention Center.

2. [Chengdu City, Sichuan Province] Perpetrators Involved in Mr. Pang Xun’s Death

Mr. Pang Xun, a former host for the Sichuan Province People’s Radio Station, was tortured to death in Jiazhou Prison on December 2, 2022, only six months after being admitted to serve a five-year term.

The perpetrators responsible for his death include Qin Keping, warden of the Jiazhou Prison; Tong Jianhua, Yu Yuandong, and Yuan Dingxing, deputy wardens; and Shao Lin, director of the prison education department.

3. [Beijing] Ms. Zhou Suxia Arrested and Detained

Ms. Zhou Suxia had a car accident in Xicheng District on the morning of August 20, 2024. She was taken to the West Chang’an Street Police Station after the traffic officer found two Falun Gong information cards in her bag. Several officers from the West Chang’an Street Police Station and one officer from the Houshayu Police Station ransacked her home that evening and confiscated two hand-copied Falun Gong books. Ms. Zhou’s family was informed the next day that she had been taken to the Xicheng District Detention Center.

4. [Liaoyang City, Liaoning Province] Ms. Wu Guixiang Faces Prosecution

Ms. Wu Guixiang was arrested by officers from the Qingyang Police Station on August 11, 2023. Her family was forced to use her parent’s house as collateral to bail her out after she was detained for two weeks.

Ms. Wu has been constantly harassed by police officers and Liming Community staff members after her release. Her case has been submitted to the Dengta District Procuratorate.

5. [Zhucheng City, Shandong Province] Ms. Zhao Jin’e Arrested and Detained

Ms. Zhao Jin’e was arrested and detained in the Weifang City Detention Center.

6. [Huili City, Sichuan Province] Ms. Cui Deli Harassed

Ms. Cui Deli was harassed at home by several officers including Ning Dexiang, head of the Huili City Domestic Security Division, on July 27, 2024. They claimed that Ms. Cui used two paper bills imprinted with information about Falun Gong, and talked to a student about Falun Gong. They gave her five days of detention but didn’t enforce it given her advanced age.

7. [Baoding City, Hebei Province] Three Practitioners Arrested

Three officers went to Ms. An Huizhen’s home on the afternoon of July 15, 2024, when she and her three guests were studying Falun Gong books together. Three more officers were called in. They ransacked Ms. An’s home and confiscated a photo of Falun Gong’s founder, over 70 Falun Gong books, and a printer.

Ms. An was not taken away because of her health condition. Ms. Wei Zhanmin was arrested and detained for seven days. Ms. Du Xiaosi was arrested and detained for fifteen days. The fourth practitioner, whose name wasn’t known, was arrested but released later that day, also due to her poor health.

8. [Xiantao City, Hubei Province] Ms. Liu Yanqiu and Ms. Yang Dongmei’s Appeal Case Heard by Intermediate Court

Ms. Liu Yanqiu and Ms. Yang Dongmei were arrested on May 7, 2023, and tried by the Xiantao City Court on October 19, 2023. The judge sentenced Ms. Yang to a two-year and three-month prison term and Ms. Liu to one year and two months on November 29. They appealed with the Hanjiang City Intermediate Court, which returned the case to the Xiaotao Court and ordered a retrial. The first instance court ruled on July 1, 2024 to stand by the original verdicts. The two practitioners appealed again and the appeals court held a hearing of their case on August 21, 2024. It’s not clear whether a ruling has been issued at the time of writing.
