(Minghui.org) Six Fushun City, Liaoning Province residents are facing prosecution for their shared faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since 1999.
Five of the practitioners, including Mr. Wang Nanfang, Mr. Zhou Shuyou, Mr. Wang Zexing, Ms. Hu Fengju, and Ms. Hu Mingli, were arrested during a police sweep at around 5 a.m. on July 12, 2024.
While arresting Mr. Wang Nanfang, officers Gao Hui, Li Yunpeng and Zhang of the Qingyuan County Police Department held him on the ground and beat him. Mr. Wang couldn’t move his back afterwards. His blood pressure also rose to a dangerously high level. He had a relapse of his old medical condition, which had long recovered through practicing Falun Gong, and was taken to the hospital in an ambulance for resuscitation.
The sixth practitioner, Ms. Li Junfei, was arrested on July 15, 2024, after she posted several meditation videos on social media in April 2024. The videos were watched and liked by thousands of people.
The three male practitioners are now held at the Dashagou Detention Center in Qingyuan County, while the female practitioners are detained at the Nangou Detention Center in Fushun City. (Fushun oversees Qingyuan County.)
The practitioners’ families hired lawyers to represent them. The Qingyuan County Police Department and the two detention centers initially barred the lawyers from visiting the practitioners, but walked back their decision due to the lawyers’ strong protest. All six practitioners’ lawyers have visited them in late August 2024. The practitioners are now facing prosecution after their arrests have been approved.
