(Minghui.org) Because Mr. Han Chunlong refused to give up practicing Falun Gong, he was subjected to “correctional programming” and denied family visits for 45 days, while serving a 4-year term for his faith.
Mr. Han, a 53-year-old Jinzhou City, Liaoning Province resident, was arrested on October 2, 2023 and sentenced to a four-year prison term on March 25, 2024. The Shenyang City Intermediate Court rejected his appeal on an unknown date, and he was admitted to Division Nine of Jinzhou Prison in August 2024.
Because Mr. Han didn’t swing his arms as instructed during a walking session on October 13, 2024, the guard director, Zhang Zhiming, summoned him to his office. Zhang ordered Mr. Han to squat while talking to him. Mr. Han refused to comply, insisting that he wasn’t a criminal. In retaliation, Zhang handcuffed his hands behind his back and put him in solitary confinement for a month.

Mr. Han’s family was not allowed to see him when they went to the prison on November 1, 2024,. A guard said that he had “made serious mistakes,” and had been put in solitary confinement for “correctional programming” [aimed to force him to renounce Falun Gong]. The guard also threatened to extend Mr. Han’s prison term. His family asked to talk to the guards in Division Nine but were not allowed to.
The family went to the Liaoning Province Prison Administration Bureau on November 8 and demanded that the prison immediately end the “correctional programming.” The bureau responded that they couldn’t reverse the prison’s decision to put Mr. Han on “correctional programming,” but they could possibly have the prison call the family and explain the situation.
The family received a call from a guard from Division Nine at around 7 p.m. that evening. The guard said that Mr. Han was put on “correctional programming” from October 13 to November 12, because he didn’t “obey the prison rules.” The guard added that if after a month, his attitude still didn’t change, they would extend the programming by two weeks. He urged the family to return in December 2024, as they would have a greater chance of having their visitation request approved then.
Mr. Han’s family later confirmed that his “correctional programming” was indeed extended by two weeks and he was forced to sit on a small stool for long hours every day from October 13 to November 26, 2024.
