A Jinchang City, Gansu Province, resident died on March 19, 2022. Her husband died in 2018 while their son was serving five years for practicing Falun Gong.

Ms. Zheng Fengzhu, her husband Mr. Yang Hai, and their son Mr. Yang Xiaochuan started to practice Falun Gong in 1998. Ms. Zheng recovered from her vertigo and her husband and son also benefited.

After the persecution began in 1999, all three faced constant harassment and threats for upholding their faith. Their home was raided many times and their valuables confiscated.

The relentless persecution took a toll on the couple’s health, with Mr. Yang vomiting blood and Ms. Zheng suffering from migraines. Their son was given three years of forced labor in 2002. After he was released, he went into hiding and stayed away from home for nine years. The police arrested him again in 2014 and sentenced him to five years on September 28 that year.

While the younger Mr. Yang was serving time in Jiuquan Prison, his father was so distraught that he died in 2018. Ms. Zheng wife was unable to cope and developed dementia. After her son was released, he relied on her meager pension of 1,300 yuan per month to support the two of them. Ms. Zheng, however, never recovered. She died on March 19, 2022.
