Ms. Qin Shaoyun, of Huachuan County, Heilongjiang Province, passed away on October 10, 2007, in the persecution of her faith, Falun Gong.
After the Chinese Communist Party began to persecute Falun Gong in July 1999, the police arrested Ms. Qin and ordered her to write a statement to renounce Falun Gong. They threatened to force the township government to fire her son, who was working there, if she didn’t comply.
Ms. Qin and another practitioner, Ms. Song Huiqing, went to Beijing to appeal for the right to practice Falun Gong on January 19, 2001. They were arrested on Tiananmen Square and taken to the Dongcheng District Detention Center in Beijing.
On January 27, 2001, both Ms. Qin and Ms. Song were taken to the Huachuan County Liaison Office. The 500 yuan in cash they had on their persons was confiscated. They were taken back and admitted to the Huachuan County Detention Center on January 28. The police extorted several thousand yuan from Ms. Qin’s daughter and forced her to sign a prepared document to renounce Falun Gong, before allowing her to go home. Her son was fined 5,000 yuan by Han Yingfa, the Party secretary at his workplace.
Ms. Qin was harassed at home in January 2004, by officers from the Huachuan County Domestic Security Division. She was again forced to sign a statement to renounce Falun Gong.
A group of officers raided Ms. Qin’s home in December 2005. They even searched her storage shed and the snow piles in the yard. They videotaped her home as well.
The police harassed the kindergarten run by Ms. Qin’s family twice in May 2007. Many of the kids were terrified and could not stop crying.
Ms. Qin was followed by several officers when she went to visit a friend in August 2007. They attempted to force her to sign a statement to renounce Falun Gong. She refused to comply.
The mental pressure of the harassment took a toll on Ms. Qin’s health. She suffered a heart attack and died on October 10, 2007.
