Finding the Light That Points the Way

Oct. 8, 2025 |   By Shen Rong, a Minghui correspondent

(Minghui.org) Jingya Wang was once a resentful person because she was alienated by her friend and classmates. Later, she was even able to handle humiliation and criticism from her supervisor at work without any complaint. She said that her practice of Falun Dafa helped her to make the pivotal change.

Jingya Wang said that Falun Dafa is the light that shows her the way.

Jingya, who is open and honest today, admitted that she was isolated for years because her classmates in elementary and middle school excluded her. “I had a close friend I’d grown up with, but her parents and mine had a falling out over money, and she stopped talking to me when we were in the fifth grade. As a result, other classmates also kept a distance from me,” she said.

The situation got so bad that no one wanted to be in the same group with Jingya on the class graduation trip. She recalled, “I felt terrible during those years; I barely got through every day at school during the fifth and sixth grade.”

Just when she thought entering middle school would end her misery, a similar thing happened. “A popular girl purposely excluded me, and the rest of the class followed suit,” she said. She became cold and indifferent toward people so she wouldn’t get hurt again. “After a while, I interacted with others with a negative attitude and believed that human nature was mostly evil,” she said.

She spent most of her time reading to distract herself and find spiritual sustenance. However, the books she read had contradictory opinions and could not help resolve her confusion and pain.

A Book That Led to a Fundamental Change

Jingya’s mother was diagnosed with cancer in 1998. One of her mother’s friends recommended Falun Dafa to her. Shortly after she began to practice, her attitude changed. She was even more optimistic, cheerful, and open-minded than before she had cancer.

Out of curiosity, Jingya picked up her mother’s copy of Zhuan Falun. She could not stop reading and finished it in one sitting. She said, “Many of the principles in the book connected with me, and I just wanted to keep reading. A phrase that particularly touched me was, ‘...some people may say that you are bad, yet you may not necessarily be bad. Some people may say that you are good, but you may not really be good.’ (Lecture One, Zhuan Falun)”

Being rejected by her classmates had left her feeling inferior and unrecognized. After reading this passage, she realized that it was the universal principles of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance that determine whether one is good or bad, not what people may think. She said, “Master’s teachings are so true. From now on, I will be a good person who embodies Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance.”

Turning Point

Jingya became a Falun Dafa practitioner in her final year of middle school. She spent a lot of time studying to get ready for the high school entrance exam. One day, she looked up into the sky and suddenly felt enlightened about what cultivation was. That special experience marked a turning point in her life.

“Before that, I read many books on philosophy and filled my head with all kinds of arguments. I always saw the world through a cynical lens and myself as a victim. After that day, I no longer tried to figure out who was right and who was wrong in a conflict. Instead, I asked myself if I needed to improve in a certain respect. Even when I was treated unfairly, I still tried to see if there was anything that I could do better.”

That mental change allowed her to see things with a peaceful attitude, including the upcoming major exam. While her classmates spent every minute studying, she spent an hour meditating beforehand. It not only calmed her down and enabled her to stay focused but also cured her chronic insomnia.

She’d had severe insomnia since she was very young. When she tossed and turned at night, she said, “I didn’t dare to look at the clock because I was afraid that it would soon be dawn and I wasn’t asleep. But after I started to meditate, I was able to fall asleep quickly at night, which I found unbelievable.”

When the quality of her sleep improved, she had loads of energy during the day and could study more efficiently. Her anxiety disappeared. She became calmer and more focused. She did great in the exam and was admitted to the best girls’ high school.

Giving Everything Her Best

The day after the exam, as her classmates were busy having fun or sleeping in, Jingya started the morning with meditation. She smiled and said, “I used to sleep as much as I could, sometimes until noon. That changed completely after I started to practice Falun Dafa. I think getting up at 4 a.m. to do the exercises is a more meaningful thing to do.”

This determination to cultivate gradually became her lifestyle through high school, college, and graduate school. “When the pressure to study came up, I no longer felt anxious. The teachings of Falun Dafa told me that grades are not the most important thing. Being steadfast, working hard, and enduring hardship are. I stopped treating tests as a drudgery but something enjoyable,” she said.

“Improving my character through the process meant more to me than good grades. This laid the foundation for me to do my best in school and, later, at work. I didn’t want to just slack off and take my chances.”

Tribulation at Work

Jingya believes that life can be fulfilling and meaningful if she follows Falun Dafa’s teachings.

Jingya earned a graduate degree in semiconductors and nanomaterials from a renowned university and became a patent attorney. She went to work at an information patent company. Her supervisor wanted her to master the required professional skills in six months, something that would normally take a person six years to master. Despite how hard she tried, even working through the holidays, she couldn’t meet her supervisor’s standards.

In the face of her supervisor’s sarcasm and humiliation, Jingya always remembered Master’s words:

“As you know, when a person reaches the Arhat level, in his heart, he is not concerned about anything. He does not care at all in his heart for any ordinary human matter, and he will always be smiling and in good spirits. No matter how much loss he suffers, he will still be smiling and in good spirits without any concern.” (Lecture Nine, Zhuan Falun)

She was able to drink a cup of tea and let go of her emotions. She said, “If I hadn’t been a practitioner, I would have suffered—and I would have resented my supervisor. According to the teachings, I should stay calm and face issues with good intentions. So I didn’t think I was suffering, and I had no resentment. The only thing in my mind was: What do I want to become? What mindset should I maintain to deal with this issue?”

She knew that she was too proud of her academic record, so, as a patent attorney, the best thing that happened to her was being able to eliminate the well-hidden attachment of superiority and becoming more humble and tolerant.

“At first, I’d felt defeated and powerless at work. Then I realized that I was harboring arrogance. In school, I had failed as a practitioner by looking down on others when I scored 100 on a test. I think those who failed their tests but had tried their best and remained humble were, in the gods’ eyes, better people, because gods value one’s heart, not the superficial performance.”

Falun Dafa Is the Light that Points the Way

A couple of years ago, Jingya changed careers. She passed the state test and became an accountant for a joint-stock company. Knowing that every job comes with a purpose for her to eliminate certain attachments, she felt confident that as long as she held herself to the standard of a practitioner, she would be heading in the right direction.

From being cynical to calm and tolerant, Jingya attributes all her changes to her practice of Falun Dafa. She said, “When facing all the tests in life, I know that I could always find a way to blame someone else. But I didn’t. I chose a righteous and benevolent attitude because I believe in Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance. I sincerely thank Master for the teachings that changed my life. Falun Dafa is the light that shows me the way.

“Zhuan Falun has already changed the lives of hundreds of millions of people for the better. If one phrase could change your mind like it did mine, it will change your life and become the light that points the way for you.”
