An 85-year-old Inner Mongolia woman died around March 2023 after years of persecution for her faith in Falun Gong.

Ms. Li Guirong was arrested on August 25, 2007, while distributing Falun Gong flyers. The Ongniud Banner Court in Chifeng City sentenced her to four years and she was admitted to the Inner Mongolia Women’s Prison in March 2008.

Guard Kang Jianwei once kicked Ms. Li in the chest with his leather shoes, sending her tumbling backwards and hitting the wall. He picked her up, only to kick her and cause her to fall again. He repeated this many times until Ms. Li was out of breath. He then forced her to sign statements to renounce Falun Gong against her will.

After Ms. Li was released in 2011, the police still monitored her closely. The ongoing persecution took a toll on her health and she later became bedridden. Her daughter Ms. Li Ronglan, also a Falun Gong practitioner, rented a place in Chifeng City for the two of them to live together. Ms. Li Ronglan’s husband divorced her earlier after she was repeatedly detained for her faith. Their son-in-law also divorced their daughter Ms. Song Lili when she sought her mother's release.

The police descended upon Ms. Li Ronglan’s rental place on December 25, 2020. She was not in and they harassed her mother. To avoid being arrested, Ms. Li Ronglan went into hiding and her sister, who lives in Hailar District, Hulunbuir (in northeastern Inner Mongolia), picked their mother up to live with her.

Ms. Li Guirong died in Hailar around March 2023.
