(Minghui.org) Ms. Liu Li’s family recently confirmed that she was sentenced to 2.5 years for practicing Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999. The 59-year-old woman, who has a physical disability, developed high blood pressure in custody. Her family is worried about her health.

Ms. Liu, a resident of Kaiyuan City, Liaoning Province, ordeal began when she was arrested on July 6, 2023, when she was putting up informational materials about Falun Gong with three other practitioners, Ms. Yang Yukun (who is also disabled), 63, Ms. Su Changqin, 78, and Ms. Chen Yongfen, 76. All four of them were taken to the Kaiyuan City Police Department for interrogation that evening. Ms. Su and Ms. Chen were released the next day, while Ms. Liu and Ms. Yang were held at the Tieling City Lockup for 15 days before being released. Tieling City oversees Kaiyuan City.

Ms. Su and Ms. Yang were seized by Wang Yi and Liu Jiansheng, director and deputy director of the Kaiyuan City Domestic Security Division, on October 19, 2023. Both practitioners were found to have high blood pressure and other physical conditions. As they were unfit for detention, the police released them that afternoon.

The police also attempted to arrest Ms. Liu again on the same day, but relented when she fainted and was taken to the hospital for resuscitation.

Ms. Su, Ms. Yang, and Ms. Liu were taken to the Changtu County Procuratorate on November 3, 2023 and forced to fill out paperwork to verify their identities. It is unclear whether Ms. Chen was subjected to further prosecution. Both Ms. Su and Ms. Liu experienced dizziness, yet the police accused them of faking it. They were released on bail later that day.

Ms. Liu was arrested at home on May 20, 2024 and taken to the Tieling City Women’s Detention Center. The police told her family that she was indicted and was awaiting trial.

Ms. Liu appeared in the Changtu County Court on July 9, 2024 and was sentenced to 2.5 years at an unknown time. She is still held in the detention center.

Ms. Su and Ms. Yang’s case status isn’t clear.
