(Minghui.org) Mr. Lei Yangfan, of Changsha City, Hunan Province, never returned home on May 14, 2024. His family learned in March 2025 that he is being held in the Wangling Prison in Hunan Province serving a one-year term.
Mr. Lei’s wife, Ms. Tang Min, knew right away that he must have been arrested again for their shared faith in Falun Gong when she lost contact with him on May 14, 2024. She approached various government agencies, but no one told her what happened to her husband. It wasn’t until late June 2024 that she learned from the Wenyi Road Police Station that Mr. Lei had been arrested by officer Zhou Long from the Dingwangtai Police Station.
Ms. Tang tried to deposit some money into Mr. Lei’s commissary account at the end of December 2024, but was given the error message on her phone saying “connection failed.” She thought it must be that the Changsha City Detention Center did not process wire transfer during the Chinese New Year holiday season. She tried again after the holiday, but was still unable to deposit money. She then went to the detention center and was told that her husband was no longer there. The guards there refused to reveal where he was taken.
Ms. Tang then approached the Yuhua District Procuratorate, which had previously indicted her for practicing Falun Gong. They gave her the number of the local case processing center. She called the center and was told that her husband had been sentenced. They directed her to the Yuhua District Court for details.
A court clerk told Ms. Tang to bring her ID and marriage license to pick up Mr. Lei’s verdict. Only then did she see from the verdict that her husband had been sentenced to one year on September 25, 2024. She went to the prison administration bureau in March 2025 and learned that her husband is now serving time at the Wangling Prison.
While Ms. Tang was trying to figure out what happened to her husband during the past ten months since he went missing, she faced frequent harassment from the Shazitang Police Station officers. They showed up at her home audio- and video-taping her. She and her husband were both previously arrested on February 12, 2023. She was given an unknown prison sentence and released in early 2025. Her husband was detained for six months and released on August 18, 2023. Prior to that, Mr. Lei served two forced labor terms totaling four years and was brutally tortured.
