(Minghui.org) I’m an 80-year-old Falun Dafa practitioner. I grew up in the countryside with a mother who taught me to be a kind person. After graduating from middle school, I worked at the company managed by my father, and was negatively influenced by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) culture and atheism. Fortunately, I started practicing Falun Dafa (Falun Gong) later in life, which completely changed me. I became selfless and genuinely kind to others. Here is my story.
Due to the Cultural Revolution and an atheistic education, I changed from being a pure-hearted person to one full of combativeness. The traditional values of respecting heaven and the gods, which I had before elementary school, was forgotten, and I began treating it as superstition. My mother passed away when I was in my early 20s, and my dad took care of me and my sister, who was nine at the time, for the next 43 years until he passed away.
He prohibited us from visiting my mother’s grave, which he considered “superstitious.” Meanwhile, our schools and workplaces continuously instilled atheistic ideology in us. Although I heard stories of people exhibiting supernatural abilities, I always dismissed them as superstition or mental illness.
Then in 1996, I learned about Falun Dafa, which completely changed me. At the time, I was at the Second Military Medical University Hospital in Shanghai for more than 20 days, preparing for a bile duct resection surgery. Two days before the scheduled surgery, my husband took me for a walk in Zhabei Park to help ease my nerves. I saw hundreds of people meditating by the park’s entrance. After they finished, I approached an elderly man who was holding a loudspeaker, and he told me they were practicing Falun Gong.
A dozen practitioners around me also shared how the severe illnesses they had suffered from, including different types of cancer, were cured after practicing Falun Gong. I was amazed. On the way back to the hospital, I told my husband that I no longer wanted the surgery. All the miraculous stories I had just heard encouraged me, and we agreed to return home and begin practicing Falun Gong.
My workplace conducted a physical examinations for the workers two months later, and my results showed that everything was normal. I told the chief physician that I had previously been diagnosed with a serious condition but avoided undergoing surgery. He immediately re-examined me, and the results verified I was completely healthy.
Even my other chronic conditions, including arthritis in the knees, tonsillitis, and stomach ulcers, disappeared. Moreover, the insomnia I had suffered from for decades, disappeared after I practiced Falun Dafa for two months.
The extraordinary effects of Falun Dafa surprised my entire family and the leaders of my workplace. Everyone praised Dafa, saying that it was amazing. Since then, my family has fully supported me, even after the CCP’s brutal persecution began.
After the CCP launched the persecution of Falun Dafa, I was illegal sentenced twice (in 2005 and 2011) for six and a half years in total, because I clarified the truth to people. My belief in Dafa remained firm during the tribulations, and I truly experienced Master’s compassionate protection.
When I returned home after the first imprisonment, people from the 610 Office, police department, justice bureau, police stations, and my workplace kept harassing me. But I refused to give up my belief. I wrote a ten-page letter and gave a copy to each department. This was very time-consuming and caused my finger joints to swell. I then decided to learn typing and bought a computer, without even knowing how to use a mouse.
I gradually became proficient at surfing the Internet, installing operating systems, troubleshooting, and even helping other practitioners set up their computers. I also became proficient at printing articles and was able to pass along the materials and posters to others. I printed many copies of truth-clarification materials and even included my own cultivation story using my real name.
Whenever the authorities came to harass me, I handed them a copy, saying, “I can’t explain everything to so many people one by one. So I wrote down a description of the unjust treatment toward me. Please read it.” I also mailed copies to those in the judiciary and other relevant government departments.
A dozen police officers and two people from my workplace once came to take me to a brainwashing center. My husband and I firmly resisted. The stalemate lasted for an hour and they eventually called the deputy director of the police department. He came over and sat next to me, “Are you the one who wrote the letter? I read it.”
I explained why I would not go to the brainwashing center. Someone called him around noon, and he used the opportunity to send all the officers away. He walked around my living room and saw Master Li’s portrait, but did not say anything. Instead, he told the two people from my workplace to buy me lunch at a nearby restaurant, and quietly left.
A crisis was peacefully resolved. I realized that the letter I sent truly played an important role in helping my situation, and saving people at the same time. Since then, I was not harassed for a very long time. I later heard the deputy director was promoted. He was rewarded for his good deed.
I was sentenced again at the beginning of the COVID pandemic, for three years, for handing out truth-clarifying materials. I was held in a detention center and used the wisdom I had cultivated in Dafa to clarify the truth to the inmates. The cell was required to have a meeting every night, so I took the opportunity to tell them about Dafa and the persecution. Since the surveillance camera was on, the cell head was a little scared and avoided giving me time to speak.
I approached her during the day and told her the facts about Falun Dafa. Two days later, she let me have all the time during the meetings. I shared the conversations I had with the police during interrogations in front of the inmates, and focused on one topic each day, such as “Why do we practice Falun Gong? Why did former CCP head Jiang Zemin decide to persecute practitioners? What are the benefits of practicing Falun Gong? How I know the self-immolation in Tiananmen Square was a hoax? and What is the truth about the April 25, 1999 appeal?” I also added stories about traditional culture from the Tang and Song dynasties.
Some inmates were fearful at first and reminded me that the surveillance camera was voice-activated. I told them, “I just simply report to the cell head about my case and interrogation process. Whoever listens to the truth about Falun Gong will be blessed, including the police.” Many times, my speeches ended in applause. When I was transferred to the prison, 43 inmates in the two cells had already quit the CCP and its youth organizations.
I once took a car ride to the city with a friend and an elderly man from his hometown. I spoke to the elderly man about Falun Dafa. He was a Party member and had some resistance at first, but he gradually agreed with what I said. But when I asked him if he wanted to quit the CCP, he refused, “It was not easy to join the CCP in my era. I have five sons. One is a county major and the others are business owners. I will never quit.”
Seeing his resistance, I calmed down and started sending forth righteous thoughts to eliminate the bad substances in other dimensions that were controlling him. When we neared our destination, he suddenly turned to me and said, “Please help me quit the CCP.” I nodded and handed him a Dafa amulet. He asked for another one for his grandson. I told him to spread the truth to his family, and I emphasized the importance of quitting the CCP to keep safe. He thanked me sincerely.
Early the next morning, he came to my friend’s house asking, “Is that person who talked to me yesterday still at your house? I could not sleep all night and was afraid that she would forget to help me quit the CCP.” My friend told him that I would not forget. The old man insisted that he call me to confirm.
My friend told me about the man’s request, and I was deeply touched. I also came to understand that Master will help us as long as we try our best to save people.
My friend’s 76-year-old mother was diagnosed with cervical cancer ten years ago, and was bleeding daily. She was illiterate and had suffered many hardships in her life. I told her to recite the auspicious phrases “Falun Dafa is good, Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good” often. Her daughter also frequently reminded her. The lady tried it and eventually remembered the words. She kept reciting the phrases when in pain. Soon afterwards, her condition significantly improved.
She once fell into a coma for three days. Her children and grandchildren were very anxious and thought she may not make it. They put on her ceremonial funeral clothes and shoes. Miraculously, she “came to” three days later, and the first thing she asked for was a big bowl of porridge.
The elderly woman described a vision in which she was tired from running and got on a truck with many people. A young man then pushed her off the truck, and she woke up. Her daughter-in-law immediately removed the funeral clothes. Oddly, her shoes were dirty, and the edges were all worn out. Did she really go to the underworld after she fell into a coma? After waking up, she continued reciting the auspicious phrases. She lived for another ten years and died peacefully at the age of 86.
When I studied Master’s new article recently, I was struck when I read:
“The troubled nature of this world is meant to make something great of these lives.” (“How Humankind Came To Be”)
I came to realize that the troubled nature of the world is inevitable at the end times. Human beings are all in danger. But the Creator is compassionate to sentient beings, so he rectifies the Fa. It’s up to us humans to choose the correct path. It is such a great honor to be one of Master’s Dafa disciples!
