90-Year-Old Man Tortured While Serving Time for Practicing Falun Gong
(Minghui.org) A 90-year-old man in Weifang City, Shandong Province was jailed on June 25, 2025, to serve a six-month term he was sentenced to in March 2022 for practicing Falun Gong. The Minghui.org website recently confirmed that Mr. Liu Xuesen is being subjected to constant abuse in the prison for upholding his faith.
Mr. Liu was assigned to the 11th Division after he was admitted to the Shandong Province Prison. The 11th Division was specifically set up as a brainwashing center aimed at forcing Falun Gong practitioners to renounce their faith. To that end, prison guards order the inmates to physically and mentally torture the practitioners, including by punching, kicking, and slapping them, shocking them with electric batons, restraining them in metal chairs, tying them with ropes, hanging them up suspended by handcuffed wrists, depriving them of sleep, and forcing them to stand for long periods of time without moving.
Mr. Liu was held in a room on the sixth floor, isolated from others. He wasn’t allowed to go to bed until 2 a.m. and then the guards would wake him up again at 5:50 a.m. For over 20 hours in between, he was forced to sit on a small stool, while watching videos smearing Falun Gong. He wasn’t allowed to get up to move around, except when he used the restroom or had meals. He was given only one cup of water each day and a steamed bun for each meal, with very little vegetable or meat. The times that he could use restroom was also limited, and there wasn’t enough toilet paper available.

After long hours of sitting motionless, he felt sore and painful all over. Even his legs and feet were in pain. He was sleepy, hungry, and thirsty. The inmates poked his eyes when he couldn’t stay awake. His buttocks developed two large bruises, which were extremely painful when touched. In addition, the prison provided only a thin mattress pad, and he could only sleep on his side. He wasn’t allowed to take showers or call his family, unless he admitted that he was a criminal.
Inmate Guo Xingwen was assigned to monitor Mr. Liu. In order to force him to renounce Falun Gong, Guo often verbally abused and humiliated him.
In addition to Mr. Liu, two other elderly practitioners, Mr. Wang Zhigeng, 84, and Mr. Guo Liangtai, 87, are also being tortured in the prison, including sleep deprivation, sitting on the small stool for long hours, and verbal abuse.
Mr. Gao Baoliang, in his 50s, couldn’t remain seated due to femur necrosis. Inmate Hao Chenglong thus forced him to lean against the wall while sitting on the small stool.
Mr. Wang Zhongshi, of Zibo City, was admitted to the 11th Division in November 2021, to serve an eight-year term. He was tortured to death on July 22, 2024. He was 71 years old.
