(Minghui.org) A 43-year-old woman in Wuhan City, Hubei Province, is set to stand trial on October 20, 2026, because she practices Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since July 1999.
Ms. Wu Xianli was arrested on April 9, 2026, after she was deceived into opening her door by Lyu Shaonian and a few other officers from the Guandong Police Station, as well as property management staff. They claimed to be checking for water leaks and barged in. They confiscated her Falun Gong books and laptop computer.
Ms. Wu was interrogated at the police station and given 15 days of detention at the Dashichang Lockup. She was transferred to the Dongxihu First Detention Center on the 16th day. The police listed the reasons for her continued detention as follows: multiple Falun Gong books were seized from her home; surveillance cameras captured her distributing Falun Gong materials on multiple occasions.
Officer Lyu submitted the case to the Gaoxin District Procuratorate and accused her of “using a cult organization to undermine law enforcement,” a standard pretext used to frame and imprison Falun Gong practitioners. The Procuratorate issued a formal arrest warrant for Ms. Wu and ordered her to be “kept in custody” because they needed more time to investigate.
Ms. Wu’s family learned in early August 2026 that her case was transferred to the Hongshan District Procuratorate. She was then indicted and had her case forwarded to the Hongshan District Court. Presiding judge Guo Chunzhi set a trial date for October 20, 2026.
While Ms. Wu is awaiting trial, it has been hard for her husband to care for their young child on his own.
