(Minghui.org) A 65-year-old man in Guiyang County, Hunan Province, was arrested around June 30, 2026, for practicing Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) since 1999. Mr. Wang Xiaoping is being held in the Guiyang County Detention Center and is facing trial.
Although the details of Mr. Wang’s most recent arrest are unclear, this article provides information about the persecution he has endured thus far.
Mr. Wang was born in October 1961 and used to be the captain of the criminal investigation unit at the Public Security Bureau of the Baoshan Lead-Zinc-Silver Mine. Before he practiced Falun Gong, he suffered from severe Hepatitis B, which led to bleeding gastric ulcers and renal impairment. He was very frail. He was hospitalized for an extended period of time, but his health did not improve. A doctor told him, “This condition is extremely difficult to treat. It may never be cured.”
Seeing that traditional medicine was unable to help him, he began trying the qigong practices that were popular at the time. In 1994, he attended a Falun Gong lecture series and stayed with the practice. His health rapidly improved. He lives by Falun Gong’s principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance and remained impartial while handling cases. He was held in high regard by his superiors and colleagues, and was thus appointed captain of the criminal investigation unit.
After the persecution started in July 1999, the Public Security Bureau leaders sought Mr. Wang out for a “talk,” attempting to force him to give up his faith. Mr. Wang maintained that practicing Falun Gong and being a good person were not wrong, and he refused to “transform.”
In 2000, Mr. Wang was demoted and transferred to the logisitics department. After another round of restructuring in 2007, his job was to deliver meals to the underground canteen. In 2010, he was moved to the underground mining section to work as a vehicle transporter.
Over the last 27 years, Mr. Wang faced constant surveillance and harassment by the 610 Office, especially on important holidays and politically sensitive dates. His family and child also lived under immense pressure.
In the middle of 2001, Hu Yunguo, the director of the Guiyang County 610 Office, and Li Jiushe, the 610 Office’s political instructor, sought out Mr. Wang for a “talk.” When Mr. Wang took issue about the propaganda slandering Falun Gong, Hu flew into a rage and threatened Mr. Wang: “I represent Jiang Zemin (the then leader of the CCP). For what you just said, I am going to have you locked up today.”
Li and others later raided Mr. Wang’s home and took him to the county Public Security Bureau for interrogation. Mr. Wang tried to run away but failed. Hu and Li handcuffed him and punched him in the temples dozens of times.
When they later took him to the detention center, Li smashed Mr. Wang’s head against the car door frame. He sustained a gash more than an inch long on the top of his head. It bled profusely. The detention center refused to accept him in case there were complications from his injury. Only then did Hu and Li take Mr. Wang to the County People’s Hospital to have his wound sutured before taking him back to the detention center.
At the detention center, he was forced to eat kitchen refuse normally fed to pigs. He was also forced to work for more than 10 hours most days assembling decorative lights. His fingers developed blood blisters, and he had bruises under his fingernails. Turning the light bulb bases caused him great pain, but if he didn’t complete all his assigned tasks, the head inmate would hurl violent threats at him.
When Mr. Wang was release 39 days later, the authorities extorted 3,000 yuan from him as a security deposit, which was never returned.
Head of the Public Security Sub-Bureau Li Zhiqiang and political instructor Li Chunan barged into Mr. Wang’s office toward the end of 2001 and took him to the Chenzhou City Brainwashing Center. He was held there for over a month, and his salary for the month was withheld.
During the brainwashing sessions, Mr. Wang was forced to watch videos that defamed Falun Gong, and the guards tortured and threatened him.
Prior to the Beijing Olympics in 2008, Hu and others from the county 610 Office again stormed into Mr. Wang’s workplace, arrested him, and took him to the Beihu District Brainwashing Center, where five guards pinned him to a bed and beat him, leaving him covered in bruises.
For the next few years, whenever a brainwashing session was held in Chenzhou, Mr. Wang would be forced to attend, including two session in June and October 2011.
Mr. Wang was arrested again at work on October 24, 2012, by Hu, head of the Guiyang County 610 Office, and officers from the Guiyang County Domestic Security Division and the Baoshan Police Department. They took Mr. Wang to the Laodaohe Brainwashing Center in Changsha City, the capital of Hunan, for more than a month.
During this time, Mr. Wang was interrogated and humiliated. The guards slapped him around his ears, struck in the heard with a rolled up book, and forced him to watch DVDs that slandered Falun Gong.
This brainwashing session posted substantial bonuses and big salaries for the “brainwashing experts” from Hainan and Hubei. They used sophisticated methods to work on the practitioners.
