(Minghui.org) I began practicing Dafa in early July 1999. When former Chinese Communist Party leader Jiang Zemin launched the persecution on July 20, I had not yet fully learned the exercises. However, my many diseases—including headaches, sinusitis, swollen red eye, pharyngitis, lumbar disc herniation, gynecological problems, breast cancer, and anemia—had already disappeared.
Although I was unable to practice due to the persecution, Master taught us in Zhuan Falun,“A true Dafa cultivator can obtain the same result by reading this book, provided that he is strict with himself in improving xinxing.”
So I read Zhuan Falun whenever I had time. The more I read, the clearer my mind became and the lighter I felt. I was later able to join other practitioners and clarify the truth about the persecution to people.
My grandson was just four years old when his mother passed away. In addition to managing household chores, I also attended to his daily needs—cooking, washing, toileting, and tutoring him. Each morning I got up early to do the exercises, and send righteous thoughts before I took care of the family. I studied the Fa (teachings) at night and I went to bed after I sent forth righteous thoughts at midnight.
My grandson studied the Fa and recited poems with me. Blessed by Dafa, his grades were always good, and he was admitted to a top high school. When he told my son that his achievements were thanks to Master, my son just smiled and did not say anything.
My son did not appreciate my hard work, and he complained that I spoiled his son. Master said, “Don’t hit back when hit; don’t curse back when cursed,” (Teachings at the Conference in the Eastern U.S.) I was unmoved by his attitude and remained silent.
I was frequently harassed by police officers and members of the community after I filed a lawsuit against Jiang Zemin. After I filed the lawsuit, my son was threatened with losing his job and my grandson’s admission to university was at risk. Every family member, including my son’s new wife, strongly urged me to give up practicing Falun Dafa, but I refused. At one point my son became so emotional that he overturned the dinner table, and smashed the TV and the fan. He even changed my bedroom lock and locked me in.
I told my son, “My diseases disappeared after I began practicing and you didn’t have to spend any money. I’ve taken care of your son since he was four, and he attended a top high school free of charge. All of these blessings come from my practice of Dafa! Please, change my door lock.”
I recited Master’s poem, “Righteous Thought, Righteous Action” in Hong Yin II,
“Great enlightened beings fear no hardshipTheir will is cast of diamondLife or death, they have no attachmentForthright and broad-minded on the road of Fa-rectification”
Soon after the incident, the local 610 Office chief tried to force me to sign the three statements. He threatened to send me to a brainwashing center if I refused. I remembered Master’s teachings and my fear vanished. I did not yield to his threat, but my daughter-in-law had my son sign the statements on my behalf.
Master said,
“Under trying circumstances of any type, you must all keep steady in thought. Just by staying unaffected you will be able to handle all situations.” (Teachings at the Midwestern U.S. Conference)and,“As a person goes about things and can look at things with righteous thoughts under any circumstance, none of you will become afraid when facing persecution. If that is how you are, who would dare to persecute you!” (Teachings at the 2005 Conference in San Francisco)
I said, “Falun Dafa is the universal Fa and is here to save people. It has spread throughout the world. If I sign the statements, not only will my previous efforts be in vain, but you will suffer consequences. I solemnly declare that these statements are void because I did not sign them.”
This official did not return, but afterwards my family members distanced themselves from me, and my son and his family moved out. My husband refused to talk to me and abandoned our land, leaving me to farm it. My son even refused to sell the corn for me at harvest time.
Unable to afford his rent, he moved back in with us six months later. However, my daughter-in-law still treated me as an enemy. She ignored me and would not talk to me. She refused to eat with us, and would not allow me to give food to my grandson. She did not appreciate any food we prepared for them. She spoke to the neighbors but ignored me.
I realized that my daughter-in-law must be the person Master arranged to help me cultivate and improve, so I should be grateful to her. I was impatient, short-tempered, competitive, and unyielding. I needed to cultivate away these human attachments and become selfless and considerate.
My daughter-in-law stopped working after she gave birth. Whenever I had any spare money I gave it to her. Over the past three years, I’ve given her more than 60,000 yuan. For her 40th birthday, I bought her an expensive gift. She thanked me but said she felt we did not appreciate her because we did not spend any money to welcome her to our family. I reassured her that we always treated her as our own daughter. Last year, she bought me a pair of leather shoes, and some clothes. Our icy relationship finally started to melt.
I told her, “Please let me know if there’s anything that I did not do well, but you should not have a bad opinion of Dafa. It saves people from disaster. It has miraculous health effects. Before you married my son, all my diseases disappeared shortly after I started practicing. Many cancer patients who sincerely recited ‘Falun Dafa is good and Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance is good’ have had their lives extended. One of my classmates who had throat cancer which metastasized to his liver and lungs in 2021, but he is still alive even though the doctors told him he only had three months to live.”
She replied, “My father was diagnosed with lung cancer last summer. The doctor advised him to just go home and rest. I was deceived by the CCP. I am sorry.”
I told her she would receive blessings if she sincerely recited, Falun Dafa is good, Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance is good. Today, her father eats and sleeps well, and is free from pain. My family is happier than ever before. Dafa has truly transformed our lives! I can only repay Master’s boundless grace by cultivating even more diligently.
