(Minghui.org) A 62-year-old woman in Yushu City, Jilin Province, completed a three-year-and-three-month prison term in April 2020. She was incarcerated because she practices Falun Gong. Minghui.org previously reported on her conviction, and she recently recounted the abuse she suffered in custody.
Ms. Wang Yulan was arrested on January 5, 2017, after she was reported for talking to people about Falun Gong. After ten days at a local lockup, she was put in criminal detention at the Changchun City Fourth Detention Center. She went on a hunger strike and was force-fed.
The detention center’s deputy director Wang instructed several people to hold Ms. Wang down on a bench. He then force-fed her. Yellow liquid oozed out of her ears and she temporarily could not hear.
Ms. Wang’s legs became very weak due to the abuse, and she was unable to walk at one point. Several people then gave her an injection of so-called nutrients. She couldn’t move her shoulders afterwards. When she yelled for help they stopped the injections.
The Yushu City Court tried Ms. Wang on July 21, 2017, and sentenced her to three years and three months and fined her 10,000 yuan. She was admitted to the Jilin Province Women’s Prison.
The prison guards forced Ms. Wang to sit upright on a small stool with her hands in her lap from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. every day. Her buttocks festered, and her blood pressure shot up. When she crossed her legs to meditate, the guards told the criminal inmates to tie her four limbs to the four corners of a bed.
The guards later took Ms. Wang to a hospital for IV injections. After they brought her back, they put her in a solitary confinement cell, which was very dark with a tiny window the size of a human face. There was a hole at the bottom of the door for food delivery. Every meal was corn paste with two small pieces of cornbread. The guards later only gave her corn paste.
Ms. Wang was restrained in a metal chair and was not allowed to use the restroom. Her systolic blood pressure shot up to 230 mmHg (a normal range is 120 or lower). The guards repeatedly pepper-sprayed her face. They closed the door each time, so the smell lingered in the cell for a long time.
Ms. Wang was also ordered to sit in a circle drawn on the ground. The guards threatened to shock her with an electric prod if she dared to move. One month later, they returned her to a regular cell, where she was again forced to sit on a small stool for long hours every day. The sitting torture lasted until she was released in April 2020.
